    Stereo Mix not recording anything

I have no idea why this isn't working.

I have disabled all outputs and inputs except for Realtek Digital Output as output and Stereo Mix as input. Both at 100% volume. Checking/unchecking "Listen to this device" doesn't do anything nor does connecting a headset through a jack. Realtek Digital Output shows sound signals but Stereo Mix isn't picking up anything.

I read that having an HDMI cable to a monitor bypasses the onboard soundcard, but shouldn't the onboard soundcard be used if you disable the monitor's speakers? My monitor doesn't even have speakers in the first place (although the output devices show it does because of another similar monitor model with speakers).

    Using Windows 20H2.

What can I do to solve this?

It is physically impossible to do what you are thinking. Realtek chipsets don't accept digital inputs.

Stereo Mix only accepts Realtek's analog outputs as analog inputs.

I don't get it. So I need to connect analog speakers to make Stereo Mixer record audio from the internal sound card?

You see the spdif output doesn't interact with the rest of the chip.

I had a previous PC with speakers connected and I was able to record internal audio through the Stereo Mixer using the Windows voice recorder app without any problems. What gives?

That's listening to the speakers' analog signal.

Got it. So why isn't it listening now when I plug in my headset via the analog jack? What's the difference?

Because you disable all other outputs.

Apologies, should have said that I enable that output when connecting the headset.

Is it because I'm connecting it to the front panel instead of the back one?
