but MoKiChU's 6.0.9506.1 asus drivers have outdated realtek device extension inf files (they're not 9506 though)
only the main/base codec driver files (rtkaiodat.dat & rtkvhd64.sys) are 9506.
though recently he has revised/updated his 6.0.9506.1 driver packs with newer/updated "Realtek Extension Drivers"

For another system I bought a cheap USB DAC to 3.5mm dongle. It works, but I find the sound quality is not as pleasant as the ALC283 on my NUC which can use drivers. On my regular system there is more volume headroom and better body/warmth.
Can USB dongles use drivers too (this one uses an ALC5686) or no? There are no options available when plugged into Windows, only setting the bitrate/frequency, that's it. It shows up as "Headphones" in the Windows control panel.

Ok, I was able to make a Realtek USB audio driver work for this. Sounds better than the MS generic driver.

The usual have-disk install procedure and pick "Realtek USB Audio".
Apparently the Realtek audio control in the ms store will also work, but I didn't test that. I am happier now that the driver improved the sound.

Slightly confused here about the Realtek Audio Effects Component, why the heck am I stuck on 11.0.6000.1096 when there is a version 12.137.1101.127? Does it have something to do with my board then being stuck on 11?

the Realtek APO2 "12.x" versions are used on few/certain aio desktop & laptop pcs and never used on common desktop motherboards.
