I've just installed Windows 11 and was wondering what would be the latest Realtek audio drivers for my old board - Asus Z170 Pro Gaming. Would really appreciate if someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks a ton!

Nope, you're not wrong. You're absolutely right. That's what they do.
And that's one of the reasons of the strict CPU list. To have systems, after early 2018 which can use DCH drivers.
Yes apparently my M$ Surface 3 won't get Win 11 as it is 5-6yrs old now and the CPU isn't supported even though it meets all specs.

DCH = UAD .......just a different abbreviation.

*Apparently my 6mth old Gigabyte Aorus Z590 Mobo does not support PTT properly (yet) as Win11 won't install on it either.

DCH (Declarative Componentized Hardware) = MS/Intel/ Nvidia abbreviation
UAD (Universal Audio Driver) = Realtek abbreviation

DCH and UAD denote the same type of driver!

I have 7th gen processor running Realtek Audio DCH driver and Intel Integrated GFX DCH driver. The Intel's driver installer bundles together support from 6th to 11th (so far) generation, therefore 6th gen processor is also supposed to run DCH.
Even Pentium 4 or 20 years old Pentium III could run DCH drivers, just as floppy disks can still store data - but it's extremely inconvenient.
My Asrock's board with Z270 chipset never got official Realtek DCH drivers due to "planned" (artificial) obsolescence. But for example (and there are many of them), GA-Z270X-Ultra Gaming board by Gigabyte got OEM DCH for Realtek, and last update was on June 2019. So, one can use 6th or 7th gen processor and run DCH's "officially" on it.

From my understanding, M$ have chosen 8th gen as minimum system requirements for Win 11 as 8+ gen processors support TPM 2.0 out of the box. My motherboard has TPM 2.0 module header, and it provides the same level of functionality as 8+ gen board if the module is plugged in. But the modules are unavailable, and ASRock provided at most 3 months of effective support for the board (in contrast to Gigabyte's Z270 based board).

I would ask Mokichu in his thread, which Version Driver you need as it may not be the SS3 Version he posts, as I think the X-Code is a high end Mobo correct?

The solution comes from here from MoKiChU

Everyone : To avoid ZoneID blocking trouble :

    - For each downloaded .zip : ZoneID unblock the .zip (Right click on the .zip file > Properties > Check the box Unblock > OK).

    or

    - Disable the ZoneID blocking completely (you will no longer have to unblock each downloaded .zip) :

    - Right-click Windows Start button then click Launch then type gpedit.msc > OK
    - User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Attachment Manager
    - Do not preserve zone information in file attachment : Enabled > OK.
