I have a Dell Inspiron 7537 which has the latest Dell supplied Realtek HD audio version 6.0.1.7564 dated 21/07/15. This provides the Dell audio utility shown here:
    Attachment 345453
I installed driver version 6.0.9132.1 as mentioned here in the first post via Device Manger. However, this driver still links to the same Dell Audio utility as shown above which now no longer works. Not sure what I'm doing wrong here.
    Steve,
The driver provided in the 1st page is a FF04 (FF00 with Conexant (CXAPO) Integration) driver, usually good for hp machines.
What you most likely need is a FF06 (FF00 with MaxxAudio Integration) driver.

Thanks - any idea how to track down the latest version of that driver?

"latest" is a very strong word nowadays for an HDA driver.
What I found so far are the following:
    6.0.9123.1
    6.0.8895.1
    6.0.8821.1 from this post

They definitely need to be tried (with the usual process of creating a Macrium system image, before starting).

the mentioned 6.0.8895.1 HDA driver is Dell specific though - non-generic.
however, the 8821 & 9123 HDA FF06 drivers are generic but 8821 has that security vulnerability (so avoid using 8821),
there was also 6.0.8918.1 FF06 HDA which is also generic and is a security bugfix version.

regarding the Dell Audio manager tool, that app will be used instead of the usual Realtek HD Audio Manager because the Realtek HDA drivers are pre-programmed to use that on certain Dell machines with Maxxaudio integration as explained from this Dell forum post by Jim Coates.

Thanks - I decided to use 6.0.8918.1 FF06 HDA which works on my Inspiron 7537 since it has the Maxxaudio integration and is newer than the latest driver on Dell's site which is v 6.0.75464 dated 21/07/15.

Both drivers produced fuzzy sound through the speakers with Maxxaudio but the sound is OK via headphones.
