Cliff, out of curiosity, how do you know that the hdmi input/output that you are comparing sound to is actually the ideal presentation? What if it is awful?

On my system, I do have the ability to output 3.5mm on the monitor through hdmi, and it just sounds really bad compared to the Realtek on my PC. So either the driver from Intel does a bad job, or the chip in the monitor whatever it is, does a bad job. My assumption is that you have a receiver or optical input or something, but how do you know it's implemented well?

I use a SHARP HT-SBW460 Dolby Atmos Soundbar and it is set up so:
Realtek connected via optical(Realtek Digital Output) 192000Hz @ 24Hz Spatial sound off
HDMI via my ROG Strix 3090 using Spatial on: Dolby Atmos for Home Theater

When I test to compare only the driver, I turn of all sound enhancements(Sonic Studio 3)
After testing I can again turn SS3 back on and let it upmix to Dolby and I only use spatial sound on HDMI or if I'm using my Dolby Atmos headphones, then too.

My windows update says that there is an A-Volute software component 3.3.3.0 available, but I can't find it on MUC. is that typical? Should I install the 3.3.1.0, and then update it to 3.3.3.0 via windows update?

MUC have FINALLY posted A-Volute 3.3.3.0.

I really haven't been paying much attention to all these UAD driver updates going on but does anyone have any clue whether I can use another one for the ASRock Tai Chi x470? It's currently sitting at 8750.1 from 2019/9/2 which I'm pretty sure there's an update somewhere besides on their site. However I really don't know enough to determine compatibility between it and other UAD's. Like what components does it actually have? I'm seeing under Software Components 4 things, how do they related to UAD?

    1. Realtek Asio Component 1.0.0.4 6/19/2017
    2. Realtek Audio Effects Component 11.0.6000.705 7/4/2019
    3. Realtek Audio Universal Service 1.0.0.185 7/9/2019
    4. Realtek Hardware Support Application 11.0.6000.185 7/2/2019

Pretty sure there must be newer versions out?! Any insights would be interesting thanks

It is strange to me how I can hear subtle differences between audio renderers (all to 3.5mm output) on my video player between DirectSound (shared mode, sits on top of wasapi), Wasapi Shared and Wasapi Exclusive. I also tried the ancient waveout renderer as well and that sounded different as well.

Not a lot of difference.. one might have a bit more emphasis on bass, another a bit more on treble, these in turn affect perceptual fullness, etc. Ideally, they should all sound identical, but they do not.

Also interesting to me, that option in the properties for the speakers "Enable audio enhancements", I have it unchecked. This is the option that the realtek control panel for things like loudness equalization, etc. depends on and they won't work if it is unchecked. Oddly, even with everything at defaults and all options off there is also a subtle difference for me with that option checked on, which tells me that it is manipulating something anyway.

Go to MUC, search and download the latest codec, then search for the latest software components and download the file as well. Unpack those two cabs in different dirs to make things simpler. Then go to Device Manager, open your sound devices and right click "Realtek(R) Audio" then click "Update Driver". Choose bottom option then on next screen use Browse and navigate to where you unpacked codec cab, click next and confirm. Then open Software components in the Device Manager, right click each one that you listed, click "Update Driver", again chose the bottom option then browse to the dir where you unpacked sw components cab, click next and confirm.

Reboot and new version of RAC should install automatically.

It worked. Everything I listed has been updated to a newer version from the downloads. It appears I can also search on MUC using year after the general descriptions of these, that should allow me to find future updates. Thanks!

yup, it's "typical" for MS to post it first thru WU but not on MUC until much later

A-Volute software component 3.3.3.0 driver finally posted & showed up Fri. Aug. 13 late evening (pacific local time) on MUC
