Help with Audacity trying to import an .mp4

    Hello

    Windows 21H1 (OS Build 19043.1055)
    Audacity 3.0.2

I need to install FFmpeg library
    Downloaded:
    https://lame.buanzo.org/lame_v3.100.zip
    and
    https://lame.buanzo.org/libmp3lame-win-3.99.3.zip

There is not "avformat-55.dll" only I found "lame_enc.dll"

    From https://lame.buanzo.org

3.- If the "Locate FFmpeg" dialog appears, click Browse...
4.- Navigate to the folder that contains FFmpeg, and select the file avformat-55.dll
5.- Click Open then OK and OK again to close Preferences.
    Please help

Maybe try from here Download FFmpeg
The file you are looking for has been updated to version 58.xxxx, it comes with other distributed apps, such as blender, whether you can just drag it from a .zip into the folder you require I'm not sure, you may need to register the .dll and/ or add it's location to the Path variable, and if you really need version 55.xxxx only you may need to find an older repository.

As an update to this, I installed Audacity from the Windows Store (so the UWP version) and the file is supplied with the installation. It resides at "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\BluskySoftwareInc.17062EE08491F_2.1.1.0_x86__61yk12x6sxn40\avformat-55.dll", at least on my system.

    @ camelia

On this page Windows | Audacity (R), I find this:

Help with Audacity trying to import an .mp4-ffmpeg-import-library.jpg

    That should help.

    [update a few mins later]

I see what you've already tried (#1), but I tried Lame_v3.99.3_for_Windows.exe, and it seems to work and installs the file you need.

    Whoops. Maybe not. I'm searching.

Nope. Sorry not to be able to help. I really like Audacity, and use it frequently to edit sound files, but I've never encountered the exact problem you have, so I've never (before just now) hunted for a solution.

If wanting only the audio portion of a video such as an .mp4, .flv, .mov, .webm, etc., I will use Total Recorder set to record anything being heard in the speakers then save as one of choices available, usually .mp3. I just open TR then open/start the video then in TR click Record.

The site is not secure to buy a license

Purchase High Criteria Products, Total Recorder - captures any audio from the
Internet, records audio from CD, microphone, line-in, converts any sound formats
to WAVE file. Phone recording system.

Edit: I need to restore the audio, that is why I need extract it from a .mp4

In your first post you mentioned downloading LAME.
    Did you also download FFmpeg?

    @ camelia
    @ GHOT

GHOT's catch is right on. I downloaded ffmpeg-win-2.2.2.zip, unzipped it to a same-name folder, put that folder in my Audacity 3.0.2 folder, opened Audacity, Edit, Preferences, Libraries, Locate, negotiated to the ffmpeg-win-2.2.2 folder, selected avformat-55.dll, OK, then File, Open, selected my .mp4 file, and played the audio in Audacity 3.0.2. Done.

Help with Audacity trying to import an .mp4-avformat-55.jpg

And not hard at all. ("Too hard I will use another program, thanks." doesn't apply here.)

Good luck. But you won't need it. And your Audacity will open and read .mp4 audio tracks forever and ever. Or until it won't, whichever comes first.

I think the problem may be that the OP is downloading a source code version of ffmpeg, which is what most references point to, rather than a compiled project, of which there are many versions available.
