    Audio short pausing

    Hello,

i have problem for about two weeks and cant find solution.

Problem: When i play any sound (music, game, movie) i experience short (less than half sec) silent moments. Occur 5-20 times in minute. I play trought my MB optical out to receiver. My table speakers which i run trough external soundcard are ok. Not 100% sure, but seems it started after 21H1 update.

    Tried solutions:
    1. Checking receiver - with USB input it play fine
    2. Uninstalling 21H1 update and some other installed at same day - didnt helped
    3. Uninstalling VIA hd sound driver back to windows base driver, didnt helped, and installed back VIA driver, didnt helped either
    4. Uninstalled Geforce sound drivers (someone said they may cause problems)
    5. While playing on HIFI tidal i tried to lower quality to very base

Made 31s long video. Audio pauses problem - YouTube

Thank you in advance for your time

Hi, first check to do: download run and run scan with Latencymon (free- Google).

Post a screenshot of its GUI.

Feel free to search for other occurrences and threads on latency on tenforums suggesting approaches if this program reports you have an issue.

    That's a relief.. and re-reading your post I note
My table speakers which i run trough external soundcard are ok.
    - so that path is ok.

You do have an unusual interface:
I play trought my MB optical out to receiver.
    and given
    1. Checking receiver - with USB input it play fine
would suggest you focus on the driver for the optical interface.

I doubt anyone has a comparable setup for comparison, so I'm not sure how much tenforums will be able to help.

    Thank you for answer.

I had receiver connected via dedicated soundblaster card, but i found info that if i just pass trough digital signal to reciever (which does digital-to-analog) i dont need dedicated card. I will try to find it and give it a try. Seems like only possible solution.

Sadly i tried uninstalling drivers for that optical out, but without luck with base windows drivers, and no luck with reinstalling those drivers back.

I guess toslink cable is either working or not working right?

OK, but optical output is better than analog one, in quality terms. USB audio output is even better. Of course, it depends of the quality of digital to analog converter. Usually, receiver's D/A converters are better than PCs ones.

The problem with the interruptions perhaps has to do with sample rate and/or bit of output.

You may test it by right click on taskbar speaker icon / Sounds => Playback tab, open your device Properties / Advanced tab and change sample rate and bits, just to see if there is a compatibility problem:

Νο. Perhaps it's a cable or plug problem. An optical cable and plugs should be in a perfect condition.

About sample rates, its wierd one. I bought not-so-low cable with glass core (clicktronic). MB sound card states it can run up to 192khz, receiver can play 192khz, and yet while i try mentioned quality settings test, i dont hear anything except 44,1 and 48 khz (@16bit, wont play 24 of any kind). So i keep using just those two.

I tried to run lowest sample rate and still same issue, could be less frequent. I will check connections on both sides.

Perhaps receiver does not support 192Khz on its optical input but only on USB one. For sure, does not support 24bit.

Thank you HeM, it was indeed plug problem. I would never guessed loosed connector could act like that. Was used to working/not working. I feel dumb atm, but thank you very much for bringing that to my attention. Also dalchina thanks for your time.

Double checked 192khz support, receiver info Audio short pausing-receiver.png

While checking motherboard indeed 192khz was mentioned only on HDMI output (which i am ignoring due to too much interference). It says there is codec VIA 2021 - which itself support 192khz - but i guess its out of installed hardware possibilities.
