    How get Good audio?

Have been using a soundblaster audio card with windows 10 computer (dell inspirion) and Audacity with good voice audio, till reset something. Now don't have anything in Audacity Mic window [screenshot attached] (used to say something?) and get nothing. Tried plugging mic directly into mic plug in back of computer and use directly with realtec system that came with computer, but get bad fuzz in background of voice. Tried downloading window 10 update 6.0.9088.1 FF04 recommended when enter word "audio" in forum search box...when open get whole bunch of stuff [screenshot attached]...don't know what to do with it? Will try to give any useful additional info. Help. thx

Easy option: try using a System Restore point - if you have one.

First rule of using PCs: prepare for the unexpected.

Check the default here, and see if the green bars move when you use the mic:

    No idea what this means:

Searching for 'audio' is a very poor search specification and will not find anything useful for you. Must be more specific.

Thx for reply. When I entered "audio" in the Windows Forums search space, the top listing was the update listed as recommended. Will try a more specific search.

Have you tried to reinstall the audio driver for your computer?

You said you have a Sound Blaster audio card. If you got it from Dell they will have the audio driver for it. Otherwise, you will have to get the driver from the Creative web site.

All the Dell's I see on the Dell forums with SoundBlaster cards are from the Win 7 and earlier era. On board Realtek dominates now.

Should I upload the latest driver listed when I input "audio" into the windows 10 forums search bar, and, if so, how?
I have windows 10, which I think auto upgrades (how can I tell). If so, any upgrades necessary should have already been done.
    thx

Please post the exact information for your Dell computer
    • Model number
    • ServiceTag number
    • Express Service Code

On Dell desktops, the Service Tag or Express Service Code label is located either on the top, side or on the back panel of the computer. On Microsoft Windows devices, use Dell SupportAssist to automatically scan your device and identify the Service Tag.

Did the sound card come with the computer? If not then post the model number for it.

This information is necessary to help you further.

    Sound Blaster(Creative) audio card:
You should be able to get drivers from Sound Blaster(Creative) support, you will need the model number, type of Card etc.

Install those drivers and then re-install Audacity.

We have no idea what you have for Sound Blaster hardware.

Do not post service tag number. Dell considers that personal information. Its not even allowed on the Dell support forums, if one is posted one of the moderators will delete it.
