Sound Not Working After Update From 2004 t0 20H2

Computer: Dell Inspiron 15 - 5558
Audio: Realtek ALC with Waves MaxxAudio't

After an unwanted update to Windows 20H2, my sound no longer worked. I went back to 2004, but my sound still doesn't work.

Device manager only lists Other Devices = "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus". When I try updating this device using 'Search Automatically For Drivers' I get an error "Windows found driver but had error when trying to install Realtek Audio.

I tried installing driver downloaded from Dell. This resulted in an error "Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure Error Code 0x000005B3". An excerpt from the Driver Log:

I have tried 3 different driver versions without any luck.
I have turned off Antivirus and run sfc /scannow!

I work the Dell forums (and have an Inspiron 15 5577).
We see a lot of sound problems that are caused by Windows updates. Reinstalling the Dell model specific Realtek driver usually fixes the problems. On systems with Waves MaxxAudio, the Dell Realtek driver usually also installs this. Waves MaxxAudio is needed for proper jack detection.

Go to device manager, uninstall the "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus". Reboot the PC and try the Dell Realtek driver again.

sometimes, it's also caused by unwanted driver updates from Microsoft, causing the sound to stop working altogether on certain Dell computers with Maxxaudio installed.

after re-installing the Dell specific Realtek audio + Maxxaudio driver from the Dell support site, follow the steps in this guide on Hiding/Showing Win10 updates and hide/block any Realtek driver updates that Windows Update may offer.

Just to clear my post up, the "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" entry is a sub-entry under the "Other Devices" folder. The properties for "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" show no drivers installed.
I did remove the entry and reboot/install without any luck.

I had notice early on that the Device Manager device "Sound, video and game controllers" sub-folder was Hidden. It only contained a grayed out "Intel(R) Display Audio" device. I uninstall that device. After 'scan for hardware changes' it now contains"High Definition Audio Device" and "Realtek Audio" and AUDIO NOW WORKS FINE.

I suspect it will continue to work OK so I am marking it Solved. Thanks again!
