    Sound Quality using Bluetooth

Hi, the sound quality on my laptop is very poor when using Bluetooth.

If I plug the laptop directly in the speech and sound is absolutely fine, but if I try and use the headphones using Bluetooth the quality is very poor.

For example, when speaking using the Bluetooth connection people can’t understand what I am saying, and when I watch things on Youytube the sound is poor indeed.

I have tried several Bluetooth headsets and all have the same issues.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks.

I'm not certain that I'm looking at the correct place.

Device Manager -> Bluetooth -> Bluetooth Device (RTComm ProtoCol TDI)?

There are also Intel Wireless Bluetooth, MS Bluetooth Enumerator and MS BT LE Enumerator?

Is it the Driver version please?

    Cheers

    Thanks. It's running LMP 10.256 - Bluetooth 5.1.

I have tried a BT 4 and a 5.0. Do I try moving the laptop to use BT 5.0?

    Cheers

Bluetooth has a mandatory audio codec of 8kHz for telephony. In order to use your microphone, it has to use that narrowband codec.

You can switch off the microphone and disable default Communications device (with microphone) to default device (without microphone) on your bluetooth headset to watch youtube videos --- that will swtich to a wide bandwidth audio codec for music streaming.

Bluetooth has optional audio codec for 16kHz for telephony, but both the laptop maker and the headset maker has to pay extra money for it --- and many laptop makers don't pay for it. This wide bandwidth telephone codec will still sound like crap for music.

Apple uses AAC as an optional audio codec on both their computer and AirPods. Windows PC makers don't pay for this ACC optional codec, so AirPods sound like crap on Windows pc.

Qualcomm invented the aptX codec. Android phones with Qualcomm chipsets use aptX codec as an optional audio codec. But you have to buy a bluetooth headset that specifically carries aptX codec. But if you buy that special bluetooth aptX headset and you use an iphone --- they will sound like crap.

This is why wireless gaming headsets are all using wireless 2.4 GHz dongles and not bluetooth --- because they want good game audio and good voice chat at the same time.

Windows 10 (past 2 DEV builds) added AAC support, issue is now all my headphone that support AAC are stuck on it instead of aptX, they really need to now let you choose between SBC/aptX/AAC since they added more than one codec.

Hope they add aptX-HD or aptX Adaptive soon and even LDAC Sony will license them it but it is a large sum upfront in addition to a smaller sum per device (could all pay for it in MS store if we want it).
