I have a receiver that has RCA type connectors for 5.1, is there a way to connect the three 3.5mm surround sound connections (side,read and C/Sub) from a soundcard to this setup? Can you use a 3.5mm to RCA adapter for this or do they make cables specifically for this?

Do you use 3 of them to split right/left, rear right/left, center/sub or just the one? Like the image in the first post, all 6 of those channels have their own RCA connection. Is your setup the same as what I am trying to do, connecting the soundcard to a receiver?
You could go with OPTICAL or SPDIF for a single cable solution (must be 5.1 encoded source like DVD to play 5.1), if your receiver accepts that. Otherwise, three (front left and right, side/rear left and right, center and sub) of these right here, or similar:

With my setup the Center/Sub splitter is the only one that required a splitter. I have cables to handle the rest.
If I had to hook my computer up to something like you have I would to use 3 splitters or cables equivalent to the same thing..
To understand this you have to realize that on the computer the the 3.5mm sockets have 3 connections
Note 1 & 2 may be switched
This is why you have to split them when you adapt these to RCA connector which only have 2.
If you set this up you may not know which is right or left; or center or sub for the RCA connectors. You will have to experiment to see which is which. After that you might want to label them.
