external laptop sound cards 4 HP x360 win 10/64 20h2

Problem is that we have exhausted solutions to sound problems on this relatively new laptop.

By way of summary, no sound device works, be it internal speakers, external speakers or bluetooth speakers.
We have tried both Intel & Realtek drivers, we have also re-installed windows - nothing works. All HP troubleshooting suggestions have been tried without joy (latest BIOS too)

Conclusion either sound chip on mobo is faulty or drivers are just not compatible with the latest version of win 10.

Only option left is an external USB soundcard, but would need separate sound drivers (we thought that a bluetooth speaker would get round it, but no joy) suggestions for an economic card, quality is not as important but having some sound is!

I think its 2019 but may be earlier, as with HP's built for price, the BIOS is pretty basic, can't see any audio setting.

What I do get, hard to explain, on the top left of the is a audio scroll bar as per attachment. If one tries to push up it just automatically goes back down - however when up it briefly plays for a split second. I can only get rid of the scroll bar in control panel/sound/select speaker and select "do not select this device", & apply. Using f8 key, attempts to increase sound but declines as soon as finger removed.

Tried a bluetooth speaker, unfortunately also controlled by win 10 and same happens

Never seen this before, and looking for a way round the problem.

DM sound reports no errors - ignore the A11 - that;s the bluetooth speaker which was the last thing I tried

I've used a Behringer external USB sound card successfully in the past to record some record albums. This was on Windows 7.

Haven't used it in the last 10 years or so.

Around 40 bucks as I recall.

The system is an HP Pavilion 1x360 15-br017na running windows 10/64 home version 20h2
Clean install with only chrome/adobe & CPUz added, no AV - all Windows updates complete inc diver updates.

This a new clean install from MS download of 10/64 20h2 onto a reformatted disk (sound problem remains as prior to this). Latest BIOS v45a

Basic spec is Intel pentium 4415u @2.3ghz
4gb ddr4 ram
120gb ssd
std 15" non touch screen
graphics intel 610
no usb devices attached

I tried driver 8924 as you suggested but would not take, reverted to old driver albeit it was uninstalled. I tried also 9088 which did take, however sound is still permanently muted. (also tried troubleshooter again which made no difference).

Not downloaded drivers from the Windows 10 Catalog before. One area I wasn't sure about is when installing the driver the download presents a number of different Realtek options, 3 basic categories, within each a number of entries,, for example High Definition Audio, a number of entries which appear identical, making it a lottery which one to select
