windows audio service not running error 193

    Dear all,

My lenovo laptop (windows 10) has no audio, nothing works even Bluetooth connected devices don't receive sound. I have tried all obvious routes ie: deleting the drivers and re installing + powering the pc again

    In the Services.msc:

Remote Procedure Call (RPC) and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder are running but not windows audio

When I try to start the windows audio, I get the error 193: 0xc1

Finally, I have Run the System File Checker and got the message:

"windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them"

    Any help will be apreciated!

Hi, first, your laptop is relatively old - from around 2012. As such it's possible there may be incompatibilities with Win 10 or issues with particular drivers, and these may emerge as you upgrade from 1 build to another.

Given the variety of your issues, have you ever checked the disk?
Please download and run Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) - SSDs too- best instant appraisal I know of right on its GUI.

    If that passes, then run
    chkdsk c: /scan
from an admin command or Powershell prompt.

    Post the summary result.

Before the next step noting you say"windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them"

I need your build number: you unfortunately ignored the forum prompt (there so we don't have to keep asking)

    History:
When did it last work without problems?
Did any problems start after an upgrade or update?

    Device Manager:
    - is there any indication of missing or incompatible drivers? E.g. yellow triangles?

    Thanks Dalchina,

    I'm running windows 10 - Version 2004 (os build 19041.804) old! I know....

I have followed your advice and run Hard Disk sentinel - it shows all healthy HD

I have also chkdsk c: /scan, no issues found - please see attachment

This issue started after I performed the automatic repair as the laptop wouldn't boot. After it booted successfully, everything worked ok, except the audio.

I am grateful for any advice you are able to give,

    Thanks!

    Ok, that's a good start.

    The most straightforward approach given
"windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them"
and some services seem not to be running is an in-place upgrade repair install of build 2004 which, like any upgrade procedure, keeps all progs and data.

For this you need either a 2004 iso file or a 2004 Win 10 bootable disk. If you already have one you can use that.

Else download a 2004 iso using e.g. the Heidoc iso downloader tool (Google, free).

Check you have > 30Gb free on C: then
    rt click the iso file
click Mount (available if iso association is default)
open the new drive letter created
    run setup.exe

For your own security - and you are strongly recommended to be doing this routinely - create a current disk image before the above e.g. Macrium Reflect (free) + large enough external storage for image files.

(Unsure about disk imaging? Search tenforums for Macrium and you'll find hundreds of references)

Note this won't necessarily fix all device/driver related issues, as there may be remaining incompatibilities to try to resolve, although services should then be in a default state.

great- now please start using disk imaging regularly- say weekly or whatever feels safe in terms of the rate of change of things on your PC. E.g. Macrium reflect (free) + large enough external storage for image files.

With those images you have a full backup, and can restore your installation yourself to a new disk should yours fail, or probably even a new PC if necessary.
