    As a start . . .

[1] Have you accidentally muted the volume?
[2] Have you made ANY hardware changes/upgrades?
[3] Have you installed ANY new software?
[4] Have you got a Restore Point that you can use that is prior to this happening?
[5] Run the following in case a driver has become corrupted . . .

Can you please perform the following [ this checks for ANY Problem Device Errors ] . . .

[1] Goto this TenForums link => Batch Scripts / Programs.
[2] Goto the heading Find ANY Problem Devices . . .
[3] Download and Run the .bat file [ Find_ANY_Problem_Devices.bat ].

If there are ANY errors it will create a Prob_Devices.txt file on the Desktop.

    I hope this helps.

Shut the computer down and pull the power cord out of the back of it then plug back in.
Check that the speaker cord is plugged into the light green socket.
Check that the speakers are turned on and turned up.
Check the Notification Area for the speaker/volume icon settings and no red X on it indicating it is not muted.
Open Settings then System then Sound, run Troubleshooter.
If no success right-click the Start button, click Device Manager, look for issues in Audio.

You can also try going to device manager and expanding 'sound, video and game controllers' and right click your audio and select 'update driver'. Select 'Browse my computer for drivers' then 'Let me pick from a list of drivers on the computer'. Mine shows Realtek HD audio is selected. Try another one other than the one selected if you have a list.

The mention of the headphone jack reminded me of having to repair a clients computer several months ago because somehow plugging in the headset physically damaged the jack, whatever caused it wouldn't allow plugging in the headset. It was a front-panel jack but unfortunately it also disable the rear port. I was able to find a replacement front panel on eBay.

    It's working again.

I shut it down before I lost my temper and put an axe through it. (I swear I will one day.

After a while I fired it up and the damn thing is ok.
