    Weird Notification Sound

I keep getting this weird sound, and I'm not sure what is producing it. I am assuming it may be some sort of virus, but was wondering if anyone has heard this sound before. It happens pretty often, possibly around once every 10 minutes.

I don't think a virus would announce himself and let user know it's there.

Otherwise which ever program does this, it very likely has no user interface or it is missing required permissions to show error message dialog (if this is an error).

That sounds like the default Windows notification (balloon) sound. Check for any entries under the Notification area. If you have quiet hours enabled you’ll not see any visual notification.
Does this only happen on Google or another browser? It may be that sounds is set as a notification sound for blocked advertisements.

This is master piece solution, you deserve upvotes for this!

However it's worth knowing that running process monitor for prolonged time might eat available memory before that sound re-appears.

I'm not sure if this can be avoided with some settings in process monitor but the OP will have to restart process monitor every 1-2h (depends on system memory) to avoid crash.

I'm not sure if you had found the cause of this situation yet, but i had the exact same problem and it came from chrome. To be more detailed, it came from a steam extension.

had a bubbly sound notif too that I wasnt aware of, tried some stuff on the guide posted above but no avail. Then tried to monitor the volume mixer to see which which is the culprit and and found it that it was the steam player notification lmao.

I was having a "ghost" notification sound also, and I finally caught it. I use Firefox as my browser, and it turns out it was Edge showing a notification bubble near my taskbar saying to try the new Edge. I only saw it because at that time I had all windows minimized, so when I heard it I looked at my screen to see the notification bubble. I guess it was doing it all this time, but with opened windows I was only hearing the sound, but not seeing the visual as it happened behind all open windows.

I don't know if it's the same thing. You can use this to track what triggers it. When you hear it just look at Focus to see the last thing that ran/happened.

    focus

This thread was created on December 7th, last year. The OPer hasn't logged in again since that day.

For what it's worth, Process monitor can be configured to capture specific events such as *.avi and will easily identify any errant sounds being produced.

I'm having this exact issue, kept volume mixer open trying to catch it but I failed.
I didn't google it for the past couple of hours because I couldn't imagine me finding the sound online, because it sounded like it came from a N64 or PS2 game's menu.

Googled "windows 10 system making weird notification sound" and this was the first result. I read someone saying they had the same issue that was caused by a browser extension, another person talked about Steam and I indeed have a Steam pricechecker extension. I've disabled it and haven't heard from it since. Also, the sound is the exact sound made in OP's post, I thought I'd drop this info for any future googlers.
