Sound pauses every time monitor goes to or wakes from sleep

Hi, I have an issue where sound stop whenever my monitor goes to sleep or back.

For example, I'm listening to some stone cold heavy metal on Spotify, screen goes to sleep, sound stops for 2-3 seconds, then comes back. When I move my mouse or press a key on my keyboard to wake up the monitor, same thing happens.

I've tried 3 different monitors, different HDMI cables, DP cables, everything's the same.

Has anyone had this issue before and do you guys have any recommendations on what I could do about this?

Could you provide a little more information regarding the audio? What is the destination of the audio? Is the audio being sent to the monitor to a receiver, to powered speakers, etc.? Also, what is the audio source (HDMI, DP, optical, coax, analog)?

I have the same thing happen when I have sound playing through my monitor speakers via HDMI , so I just increase the time before display sleeps.

Unfortunately, if the audio is being played to your monitor, when it goes into sleep state, depending upon the monitor, you may have an interruption in the sound or it may simply turn off completely. I have noticed with some monitors that if you connect audio to an analog input (rather than carrying the audio over HDMI), it may solve this problem. But that is not true with every monitor.

In fact, I have a monitor with rather large speakers built in that make the monitor considerably wider. Because of this same issue, I switched to external speakers.

I'll have to see if I can set up for just a pitch black image screen saver and disable sleep on the monitor - if that works I can keep listening to music and protect the monitor.

Is it a flat panel LCD screen? If so, I wouldn't worry about protecting it. I have a couple of monitors that are on 24 hours a day with no screen saver or blanking and they have no burn-in or ill effects whatsoever. In fact, Microsoft is planning on removing screensavers from Windows if that is any indication.

LCD Image Persistence this and other articles imply that LCD monitor can be subject to issues from static images.

Absurd if M$ actually removed my ability to have a custom screen saver or at least allow me to make it blank. I wonder what's their rational for doing this?

    Thanks for replying!

I'm using normal powered speakers, a simple Logitech 2.1 set. The audio source currently is DP, although I tried HDMI as well.
My monitor speakers are disabled now, but the issue persists when they' enabled as well.

olat, help me understand how that is configured. You said that the audio source is either HDMI or DP but you have powered speakers. Do you have the DP or HDMI connected to the monitor and then from monitor go out to the speakers? What are the speakers connected to?
