Audio: Headphones/Speaker only work when computer reset a certain way

Hi. I have a laptop with Windows 10. My audio driver is the Realtek High Def Audio(SST). I'm uncertain when the problem started but it's been going on for awhile. My laptop speaker won't work if the computer is restarted with headphones plugged in. Only the headphones will have any audio. And vice versa, if the laptop is restarted with nothing plugged in, only the speakers work. Even after plugging the headphones in. I've gone through the audio troubleshooting steps provided by Windows. I've also made sure all of my drivers are updated. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Realtek driver as well. No luck. I've also disabled different audio options and reenabled them in order to see if it'd help. Still nothing. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.Audio Info.docx

Timberw777 Same EXACT problem here with my new Dell Vostro 3471 desktop. I think this problem was not out of the box, but started a week or so ago. Also having problems with Windows volume slider not working correctly and the Windows sound troubleshooter not responding. I performed a checkdisk and this restored the volume slider function but only for a day or so.

Timberw777 I just ran CheckDisk again (including boot) and the volume slider AND audio device recognition restored, showing both my headphone jack AND speakers USB audio. And was able to switch sound output from one to the other on the device list. I hope this does it and no more trouble. (Ah, listening to FLAC Monteverdi Vespers on my Sensheisen headphones. Exquisite.)

Timberw777 NOPE this is still effed up. I withdrew my headphone jack and plugged back in and NO HEADPHONE showing up. Maybe it was not the CheckDisk correction but maybe I restarted with the headphones plugged in. Nuts.

Timberw777 I went to Dell forums and there was reported same or similar issue that was resolved by reinstalling Realtek driver from the Dell download site. I did this and system said I was installing an older version, but I proceeded and all is OK now. I This is the Realtek driver that I downloaded: Controlador de audio de alta definición Realtek ALC3820/3432

I appreciate the info. Mine is a Asus. I may have to do what you did, but with Asus. I'll let you know if it works. Thank you!

fjack1415 thank you! It fixed the problem right up. Never thought to go to the actual computer manufacturer website to download drivers. I always went to the Realtek to download drivers.
Glad to finally be rid of the problem. And such an easy fix.

Glad it worked. I was wondering what make your computer was and where you were going to go to look for more Realtek files.
