    Rear Audio Jacks Access Headaches

    In the past I have tried to sort out how to feed an old set of analog speakers or analog mic into the backside audio jacks several times without success.

    The speakers and mic work okay if I plug them into the front panel but not the back.

    In the previous runs I went through the troubleshooting guides but nothing solved my problem.

    I have found some new thoughts on the web. One speaks to an attached HDMI device. My monitor connects through the HDMI port.

    I have a digital mic connected through a USB port: it works fine

    None of the pages that I have reviewed speaks to any differences between the front and rear audio jacks, adding to my vexation..

    I need full access to all three rear jacks for internal and external recording and listening.

    Any thoughts will be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Your HP computer may have an extra feature called multiple audio streaming. It allows your family sitting on the sofa to listen music from computer speakers via the rear jacks and you at the computer screen watching/listening to a youtube video.

    HP computers have their own HP/B&O-faced realtek audio console app.

    The first thing that I would check is the physical connection of the front port . These will usually have some form of Jack connector that uses an additional pin to set when there is a plug connected to the front port that disables the rear port - If this front connector is damaged or otherwise incorrectly connected it will prevent the rear connector from operating at any time

    Speakers need to be set as "Output" device. If you are using HDMI for video Windows sets the HDMI audio as Output device and you will have to manually set the Speakers as output device. I have Realtek sound so the Output device is labeled "Speakers (Realtek(R) Audio)"

    The mic jack requires a "computer" mic. A standard P.A. type mic will not work (or work satisfactory).

    @fireberd

    With the preponderance of hardware now being targeted at Smartphone and related hardware I agree that there is quite a bit of confusion with sourcing sutable Microphones for use with PC/Laptops.

    There is an option available, I keep one on the top of my PC case ... This adaptor allows the connection of a "Standard" modern type Microphone/Headphone set to a traditional PC setup

    Convertors-Earphone-Headphone-Microphone UK link US is of course available

    variable Styles and other options are available to suit the user's Style/Needs and does save a lot of potential issues
