    Unwanted Sound

I've developed an unwanted sound problem. My web browser is Google Chrome. When I go to a web site whether it's this one,or yahoo, or my email, I hear through my speakers a live stream of MSNBC. Sometimes it's only a 1 second blip before it stops, other times it may go on for close to 10 seconds before it stops on it's own. Any one what is causing this and how to stop it. Rather annoying. Thank you in advance.

Have you ever live streamed MSNBC intentionally?

    Have you cleared your cache?

    Do you use Ad-Blocking software?

Do you have your browser resume from where you left off after a reboot?

Are these built in or external speakers?

Does it happen in Microsoft Edge?

Yes, I have streamed MSNBC intentionally.

Yes I have cleared my cache.

Yes I am using Ad-blocking software.

No I don't have my browser resume from where I left off after reboot.

    My speakers are external.

Haven't tried on Microsoft edge. Never use to happen on chrome. Something new.

I'm just trying to cross things off lists.

-- If you disconnect external speakers, are there internal speakers to try?

(The problem here is that it's possible the wires are picking up a signal from somewhere. Yes. I found I was sometimes awakening at night from a mysterious loud sound. But the sound was over once I awoke. I set up a wifi plug to my speakers that forces them off every night -- by killing the power. This loud sound went away with it.)

-- There's a chance you've opened a news site that it attempting to stream MSNBC your way via a story

-- Try opening the exact same pages you have open in Chrome in Edge. Just to see if this noise follows you.

There are no internal speakers to try except my blue tooth ear buds I use from time to time and I pick up the unwanted sound from them also.

Interesting. So it's no longer a speaker issue but something onboard the PC. Tell us if it happens in Edge. (Or Firefox.)

If it's only Chrome I'd consider doing --

    1. A 'FULL SCAN' with Windows Defender. (This is the long one that can take up to an hour. Longer if you have a dated processor.)

    2. I'd install the free version of Malwarebytes and run a scan as well.

I've done both those things. Found nothing.

I don't know who to say this in Chrome language, but have you tried booting up Chrome with all extensions off?

How to Disable Extensions and Plug-ins in Google Chrome

Around this time I'd consider uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome. Providing all booksmarks are backed up and you make a list of all your extensions you want to get back.

I have to do this once in a while with Firefox.

Hey pool man thanks for the idea. I turned all my extensions off and the problem went away! Now I'll turn my extensions back on one by one to see which one is causing the problem.

    You're welcome.

I should have trusted you in the first place that it was Chrome. Because then I could have offered this first. But I wanted to rule out other things. :)
