    insufficient sound through headphones

Please may I request advice. I have a win 10 system dual booting with ubuntu.

I have some hearing impairment, and strangely I find the ubuntu sound will go higher than sound can go in windows (headphones I am talking about). to be honest the sound in Windows 10 is not quite enough, whereas the sound in ubuntu is fine.

(by the way I have checked sound in control panel to make sure the sound level there is on 100 percent

Is this just the way things are in Windows or could there maybe be a workaround. Any help or advice please would be much appreciated. Thank you, Ian

I'd be sure the hardware setting for the Notebook/Laptop is set at maximum then work in Windows to adjust. It's usually the Fn key plus another key for doing it. This setting is outside any Operating System so takes place first. Works for me in several Windows Notebooks and 2 Linux Mint Notebooks.

Settings > System > Sound > Advanced sound options > App volume device preferences > Master volume slider > System sounds slider.
Settings > System > Sound > Sound Control Panel >
    Click on Speakers/Headphones.
    > Properties > Audio output slider (6 for me with average hearing using headphones).
    > Enhancements Tab > Immediate mode > Loudness Equalisation, Tick.
    Apply > OK, etc.

High sound levels are damaging to people with average hearing thus there are limits.

Hearing impairements require comprehensive testing, and specialist amplifiers.

    re: Sound problem

Hello everyone. Thank you for your kind suggestions
I have tred the suggestions but including button f4 and the other suggestion but the master vol. in Windows is set to max already. It is just I cant understand why sound in ubuntu is louder on the same machine than it is in the windows boot.

You can probably get a volume increase above windows volume limit using Peace. (System wide EQ)

Any Windows 10 Equalizer audio programs

When installing EqualizerAPO configure devices and set "instant mode"

    Exit then configure Peace.

Low headphone volumes (even at 100%) usually means the following:

    1) driver misconfiguration making realtek chip's headphone amp not turn on (that's what peace and equalizer apo are doing with their volume controls)

General Discussion: Assign shortcut to volume?

    2) using audiophile grade 600 ohms headphones on a computer which is designed for 32 ohm headphones
    3) audio signal got mingled up with communication signal and reduced by 80% (i.e. if you listen to music, a skype call comes in, the music's volume gets automatically reduced by 80%) But somehow the volume reduction operates all the time.
    4) some audio drivers come with hearing protection and limit headphone volume

Thank you for the help everyone.
I tried the PEACE as suggested but it didn't make and difference sadly.
It all seems a bit complicated for me really.

    If it made no difference:

Check that it is configured for all devices.

If using a media player with built in EQ you might need to switch that off and enable audio enhancements for Peace to work.

Example. AIMP needs EQ off and audio enhancements enabled.

    Or the reverse:

Example. Winamp needs EQ on and audio enhancements disabled.
