Proper headset setup for dictation in Win 10

    Windows version 1909 (1863.959).
I plan to start using dictation, principally with MS Word. Should I get a desktop or headset microphone? Do I need an earphone type headset or just a mike? Any other pitfalls? I have a lot of Bluetooth devices that sometimes override one another when pairing. Would it be better to get a USB microphone? Is noise suppression important?
    Thank you for any advice.

You need to buy a single ear wired headset with microphone. You need to buy the same headsets that doctors and lawyers use for dictation.

If you know how to set up a microphone correctly, then you can buy any cheap mic --- gooseneck, lav mic, headset, 3.5mm or usb.

If you don't know how to set up 3.5mm microphone correctly, then most people will tell you that usb headsets will be easier to set up (and cost $30-50 more than a comparable 3.5mm model).

If you need to start and stop dictations constantly --- like a doctor reviewing x-ray scans and need to use a mouse to see the next scan --- then you need the big $400 handheld dragon nuance microphone. That $400 handheld mic has start/stop/next/previous buttons and a tiny trackpad so your thumb can move the mouse. So doctors can look at the frontal scan, make a 10 second dictation, stop dictation, use the thumb to move the mouse to see the next scan image, and talk another 10 second.

Go to doctors and lawyers forums for more specific help.
