Can I add an external equalizer to my TV's Bluetooth output?

I have a hearing problem and can't hear the higher frequencies. I've adjusted the bass and treble on my TV's settings - but it's not nearly good enough. I'm thinking of adding a Bluetooth transmitter to my optical audio output on the TV and would like to know if I can also add an equalizer between the transmitter and my Bluetooth headphones. Thank you.

You may have to do some hardware hacking to make this happen. Check out this tutorial: How to Change the Bluetooth Audio Amplifier EQ Settings. There are plenty of APTX based transmitters available: see this Google Search.

Hey @Nisko: it's a Qualcomm chipset for wireless Bluetooth audio. See this webpage: aptX Wireless Bluetooth Audio Products & Technology.

Looked at the URL you sent me - afraid this process is beyond my capabilities. I was hoping to be able to connect an equalizer between the output of my TV and the Bluetooth transmitter. I adjusted my TV's bass and treble settings - but that wasn't nearly enough to help me hear the dialog. I've lost the higher frequencies in both ears. Wish there was some simpler way to boost the higher frequencies.

Here's more discussion on this topic you may find interesting at Tom's Hardware. Seems like if you can find an EQ device that accepts line-in output from the PC and produces line-in output to the BT transmitter, you're good to go. Many posters there also think software EQ would work, too, and you'll find some good SourceForge project links there on which to follow up. Thanks again, Ed. I'm going to follow-up with Toms's Hardware and call this thread as "SOLVED" - thanks to you.

You're welcome. I hope you find a workable (or rather, audible) solution. Best wishes,
