    Example search
    a. search for Windows performance recorder thus:
Popping and "tearing" in audio during various things-2.png
    b. Inspect the results
Popping and "tearing" in audio during various things-3.png

    c. Find one that looks interesting e.g.
Windows 10 audio clicks, pops, stutters. storport latency issues? HELP?
    - see post #6 for example of a screenshot.

Member zinou has provided help with using this tool. You can try searching for posts by him.

Please note, if you find technical things hard, I suggest you don't try using the Windows performance recorder.

    Unfortunately resolving this problem is
    - not obvious
    - has no one single solution
    - no one here is expert in this as far as I know.

There are numerous threads from which you might gain some ideas.

When using latencymon, does it tell you what .dll is causing the high latency? You should be able to somewhat pin-point the issue from there. Usually it's a driver interferring with the audio device in a negative way, but Windows' thread scheduler is also notorious to cause issues with audio, at least for me. Latencymon can be a bit deceiving though because it's normal to get spikes when running applications, obviously you don't want high µs leading to drop-outs (pops & crackles). Since you're getting issues on direct 8mm plug, I assume you're using an onboard audio driver? I would start there, maybe updating it.

    @Etetherin
Any chance this computer is running Malwarebytes Premium?

I am running it again, I will post screen shots as soon as it does the red stuff again. :) In the interim I did in fact update to the new realtek (r) driver as part of my pre-tenforums troubleshooting. It is however still doing the popping and crackling.

    EDIT (screen shot):

Looks like it says something with nvidia???

Try disabling Nvidia drivers being loaded temporarily, then run the test again.

To do that you can use Autoruns (free from MS) - it has a Find option- untick all Nvidia boxes.

You may find, for example, you need to use an OLDER driver - if the problem is indeed related to that.

That 'suck it and see' approach of disabling drivers is one possible, if crude and uncertain, approach to identifying a cause.

Do i just run this, then search, then uncheck all NVIDIA related items? No further steps like save or run or update?

I unchecked them and nothing seems to have changed at all yet.

    Uncheck the boxes, then restart.

Note: always best to back up before making such changes.

A parallel thought- if LatencyMon works in Safe Mode (it may well not- I can't recall) - you could try that.

So yea no popping or anything and it just generally sounds better with that nvidia stuff not running. So now how would one go about making NVIDIA behave? Not having it running disables so much that i use. multiple screens, high framerates, high resolution and more.

Ok, some progress.. now you can consider things like
    - which Nvidia driver version to use- what version last worked ok for you- research reports related to that.
    - I posted a link about ultra-low latency for Nvidia- might be relevant- or not.
    - Look back at the Nvidia version posted for your laptop on HP's site.

All assuming it is indeed that.

I havent let this issue go. I just have recently gone through some hard times and havent been very functional. Thank you so much for the patience I am ready to start working on this and should get back to you again in a few days time. Thank you all so so much.
