Chances are that your bitrate is fixed because of hardware acceleration.

    I don't know.

But the most likely explanation is that it is some kind of hardware acceleration required by windows sonic or dolby atmos.

Windows Sonic and Dolby Atmos limited to 16bit/48KHz? : Windows10

I have a recording studio. Why do you want 48 Khz? 16 bit 44.1Khz Is the "CD Standard". When I deliver a final mix it is 16 bit 44.1Khz.

We only mix down the final product to 48Khz if the audio was created for a movie studio as that will sync with movie video standards.

need it for a program i use it won't work right with 16 bit that is why , wondering if i remove the dolby atmos stuff i bought if i would be able to change that function again. not sure why its grey out is very strange, as on my hp envy x360 with same chipset also amd ryzen system, i can change it at will.

So i worked with HP on this it appears to be the drivers that MS is installing for my audio chip, looks like the drivers i thought i installed are not compatible , and HP said not sure when they will get drivers up from realtek, so it appears that the drivers MS is installing is generic from there catalog, thus they are limited. at least that what HP said but not UN like a computer manufacture to pass the buck and blame someone else for there mistakes.

anyone else experience this issue ????

    Hi,
I recently bought a laptop and experienced your own problem. I was having trouble with a free DAW (Cakewalk) since I could not hear anything from the internal sound card (Realtek too) and that cause also an explorer crash that force me to reboot each time.

I managed to solve like this: I went to the sound card in device management (Win+R, type devmgmt.msc) and restored the previuos version of the driver from the Driver tab.
Now I have only 1 entry in ASIO Panel for my audio board (previuosly I had like 5, and their name was somethin' like "Realtek .... with HAP"), and now I also have at least 2 choices in the bit depth panel of the Main sound device in Windows.

Really don't know why but finally I can use Cakewalk without any problem.
    Hope it helps.
