Win 10 Home & Bluetooth Headphones

I have just bought a bluetooth headphones (Betron S2) but it will not connect with pc. It seems to be assuming I want it for my mobile phone, which I don't. The sales pitch distinctly says for tablet, mobile phones or pc's. When I open Bluetooth in control panel it says not associated with any file??? The headphones are trying to pair but the pc in none responsive.

    Hello @elbmek,

99% of the time it appears to be an issue with BT driver!

Can you please perform the following [ this checks for ANY Problem Device Errors ] . . .

[1] Goto this TenForums link => Batch Scripts / Programs.
[2] Goto the heading Find ANY Problem Devices . . .
[3] Download and Run the .bat file.

If there are ANY Problem Device Errors it will create a Prob_Devices.txt file on the Desktop!

[4] Upload the results => How to Upload and Post Screenshots and Files at Ten Forums.

    I hope this helps!

No problems found. I ran it twice to make sure. I had also installed a BT x 64 driver from MS in case - but still nothing, none associated files keeps coming up when I click on Bluetooth in the CP as well. I tried it to my Samsung S8 and it connected immediately no problem.

In Action Centre I followed the instructions to open bluetooth and select new device, no bluetooth icon appears in action centre. I switched on a spare keyboard, bluetooth, and the pc picked it up immediately

Tried in on mobile - perfect. Tried it on laptop, perfect. It took a while to pick up on the S2 but it did. The pc keeps telling me to turn Bluetooth on, it is on & switch is on. There are two unknown devices listed but no idea what they are. Still searching and testing

    Hello @elbmek,

Well at least some progress is being made!
Did you try running WU's as the message suggested?
Is there an icon in your notification area , if so, did you try right-clicking it and looking at the default settings!

    I hope this helps!

I have got it working on the surface tablet and the laptop, so the fault is obviously within the pc. Still searching. The bluetooth shows up in device driver but not in notifications/action centre. Still testing ..... I think I have tried everything now. I tried also win update, but as my pc keeps itself up to date wasn't expecting anything.

Spoke to company via email, they state rightly that it should just connect automatically. I sent them system specs, in case.

They said: Thank you for sending the specs. I cannot see the Bluetooth version of the motherboard. Do you use a Bluetooth dongle as I cannot see the Bluetooth specs on the manufacturers website? I replied no dongle.

After studying best of, and other sources, I have arrived at this: Asus USB-BT400 Nano Bluetooth Stick (use PS4 and Xbox One controller on PC, Bluetooth 4.0)

If it does what it says on the tin, my headphones will work excellently on this.

fixed. sort of - I inserted an old dongle that I found in a draw and the headset came up immediately. I have ordered the ASUS one mentioned about and this old one will do as a spare. I still dont understand why 3 machines all with the same windows, only 2 work?

Please let us know how you get on!

In the meanwhile, I found this which I did a while ago [ part Win 7 and part Win 10 ] and never got round to tidying it up, so please excuse the fragmentation. I thought I would post it just in case it helps you. I know that I have probably replicated methods, but as I say, I haven't got round to cleaning it up yet . . .

    Headphones / Audio / Bluetooth device is NOT recognized . . .

    Method 1 . . .

Check to see if the computer has a USB port specifically for speakers etc. I know this sounds strange but there have been occasions where this has applied. Refer to your manual [ PDF ].

    Method 2 . . .

Run the Hardware troubleshooter. This checks for common issues and makes sure that any new device[s] or hardware attached to your computer was installed correctly.

    [1] Goto Control Panel.
[2] Type Troubleshooting in the search box.
[3] Click on Hardware and sound under Troubleshoot computer problems.
[4] Click on Hardware and devices under Devices.
[5] Click on Advanced on the Hardware and devices dialog box, select Run as administrator.
[6] Click Next [ follow the onscreen instructions to complete the Hardware and devices troubleshooter ].
    [7] Try the headphones again.

    Method 3 . . .

Make sure that the headphones are set as default.

[1] Right-click on the Volume icon, select Playback devices.
[2] Right-click on an empty space, select Show disconnected devices and Show disabled devices.
[3] Select headphone, click Properties. Make sure that the headphone is enabled and set as default.
    [4] Try the headphones again.

In the future, you will also be able to change the default sound device by simply clicking the speaker icon in the taskbar notification area and selecting the preferred audio device from there.

    Method 4 . . .

Uninstall and reinstall the Sound drivers.

    [1] Goto Device Manager.
[2] Expand Sound Video and Game Controllers.
[3] Right-click on the Sound device listed and click Uninstall.
    [4] Select Delete driver software.
[5] Restart [ this will automatically reinstall the driver ].
[6] Download and install the drivers from the manufacturer website.
    [7] Try the headphones again.

    Method 5 . . .

If there has been a recent driver update, then Roll Back the driver.

    [1] Goto Device Manager.
[2] Expand Sound Video and Game Controllers.
    [3] Right-click the Audio driver.
    [4] Select Properties.
    [5] Click the Driver tab.
    [6] Select Roll Back Driver.
    [7] Try the headphones again.

    Method 6 . . .

Make sure that the Headphones are set as Enabled.

[1] Right-click the speaker icon in the notification area.
    [2] Click Sound Settings.
    [3] Click Manage sound devices.
[4] Check if the headphones are under the Disabled list.
[5] If they are, select them, click Enable.
    [6] Try the headphones again.

    Method 7 . . .

Disable the front panel headphones jack detection.

    [1] Goto Control Panel.
    [2] Select Hardware and Sound.
[3] Find and select Realtek HD Audio Manager.
    [4] Goto the Connector settings.
[5] Check the Disable front panel jack detection box.
    [6] Try the headphones again.

    Method 8 . . .

    Change default sound format

    [1] Goto Control Panel.
    [2] Select Hardware and Sound.
    [3] Select Sound.
[4] Under Playback devices, double-click on Default Playback device.
[5] Click [switch ] the Advanced tab.
[6] Change the default sound format from the drop-down menu.
    [7] Try the headphones again.

    Method 9 . . .

Set headphone as a default playback device to fix

    [1] Goto Control Panel.
    [2] Select Hardware and Sound.
    [3] Select Sound.
[4] Under Playback devices, right-click and select Show Disabled devices.
[5] From the list of headphones that appear, right-click on your headphone device name.
    [6] Select Enable.
    [7] Click Set as Default.
    [8] Click Apply.
    [9] Try the headphones again.

    I hope this helps!

I did a reset via CP Sound and got speakers back as default. I am about to activate headphones again and see if it still defaults itself. Nothing from headphones now. What I am doing for now is I have placed a sound shortcut on my desktop and will switch over to headphones (default) when I am gaming. And Switch back to speakers for normal use.

Headphones show 'ready' and test sounds come through ok, whilst speakers are default. Put game on whilst wearing headphones and sound comes through speakers!!! Tried your suggestions, some of which had already been done. Going to try disconnect dongle and headphones, reboot, reconnect.

did so then also switched dongle from a usb 2.0 port to another I think it might work now. I switched off phones at source (power) and sound came through speakers. Switched phones back on and sound came through phones!! Could have been that the 2.0 port was not suitable even though it worked. I went back into sounds and default has remained on speakers, which is how it should be. When the 4.0 dongle arrives, I will put it in this same usb slot and ignore the 2.0 on the Card reader.

I hope all this will help some other lucky person who has same probs, you never know. Thanks Again Paul. Now its just trial, trial and hopefully no errors.

after an hour or so: when pc running normally eg: with sound through speakers. I can put headphones on and switch on and sound transfers but only in windows. Gaming: I need to switch on phones before loading game only then does sound transmit via headphones. If I switch during game, sound remains on speakers.

USB port, dongle is in a black port, on the rear is a spare blue port, will that be better for a BT 4.0 dongle

    - - - Updated - - -

just taken delivery of my new ASUS 4.0 BT USB dongle. PC does not recognise it, so installed software that came with it, no difference. Tried reboot. So uninstalled software and returned old usb to port, headp work fine.

Q: Do I need specialist eqpt for a 4.0 usb to work?

I gave up sending headphones and dongle back. The new dongle not only didnt work but screwed up all my BT settings, so back they go to amazon. I'll stick with the wired headphones. Had to do sys restore to sort pc out.
