How can I record playback audio and mic?

Basically, I want to record myself singing karaoke. I want to record using my G933 headset (which if you didn't know, has a mic), and also at the same time, record the audio of what YouTube video I'm playing on my computer.

Is this possible? I would think it should be. How would I go about doing this?

I saw a couple of videos on Audicity but I couldn't seem to get it working.

Audacity should work.

I've had to fiddle with the Audacity Preferences making sure it and Windows were defaulting to 'Stereo Mix'.

Audacity Device Preferences:



Control Panel > Sound:




Also if you're getting this error when attempting to record:




You'll need to make sure that under Start > Settings > Privacy > Microphone

You've set 'Allow apps to access your microphone' to (●) ON

If you just want a one-off at a very basic level, the Voice Recorder app included in Windows can do this.

Just tried Abba via youtube and me talking- it recorded both.

LOL it took me a sec. I take it you tried recording yourself with the BAND, "ABBA" via Voice Recorder, and it worked for you.

As for me, no such luck.

I appreciate the effort you went through to take those screen shots. Unfortunately, this did not work for me.

I actually have a few recording devices plugged into my computer. Originally:

• Line-In - plugs into the Headphone jack on audio receiver. Currently turned off, so it is listed as "Not Plugged In"
• Logitech C922x Webcam, has a microphone as well. I disabled the microphone on it, after noticing its mic was picking up sounds when I attempted recording again after changing my settings according to your instructions. Once I disabled this, I saw no green light indicators indicating sound was being picked up.
• Logitech G933 Headset - this is my default Recording and Playback device (Default Communication device). I did change the default to Stereo Mix as indicated in your instructions, no luck though.
• Microphone - Realtek High Definition Audio - Not Plugged in, as I don't use 3.5mm microphones
• Stereo Mix - As per your instructions, I made sure this was enabled and set as the Default Device.

Any thoughts as to why I'm having issues getting this to work? Does this by chance have anything to do with the fact that I use USB devices for Recording and Playback?

I think my problem may be here. I'm assuming that I could use my Logitech G933 Headset in place of USB Ear - Microphone. However, on my computer, it will not let me use my Speakers (in yours, apparently it's labeled Speakers / Headphones but also mentions it's a Realtek device). Mine is grayed out, because I don't use this port on my computer. I only use one of two things: Either HDMI from my video card to a receiver, or for the most part, I use only my G933 headset as a speaker.

So the question may be, do I HAVE TO have something plugged into my 3.5mm speaker jack to accomplish what i want to do or is there a workaround?

Unfortunately we've moved out of my pay grade at this point. Perhaps @fireberd , who's depth of audio knowledge is well respected here in this forum might see something in your particular settings situation that might help you.

Here's the situation. I want to record:

• My computer as each sound plays - Specifically a YouTube video played from Google Chrome - This is what's stumping me
• My microphone on my Logitech G933 Headset - easy enough, this works fine

I've tried the above solutions. Unfortunately, it looks like you have to have a 3.5mm playback device plugged in, to which I do not, as one solution mentioned to select Speakers / Headphones (or on my computer, it's just Speakers), both of which, are labeled a Realtek High Definition Audio. I actually only own USB playback devices. Mind you, I'm using a Desktop PC, so I'm guessing since Laptops have their own built-in speakers, results may vary.
