    @HeM

    Maybe try adding MadVR to MPC. Setup could be different depending on your build of MPC

    Windows 8.1 MPC-HC and MadVR Setup Guide - How to install and configure MPC-HC with madvr

    I prettymuch leave it on default except for:

    VLC --really good tool for repairing corrupt video files (mp4 etc)-madvr-settings-2.jpg

    If you don't notice the difference then get rid of it!

    Well, as I can see, we have a much different view about the same thing which is very normal and respected.

    I don't like, let's say 'boosting' on viewing or hearing an A/V file. I love pure pictures and sounds without any touch on them. I hate any kind of 'equalization' and I love the -as far as possible- 'flat' approach to those kinds of art. I like to see or listen to creator and not myself...

    Believe me, I've tried many things to that direction and I've come with MPC via FFmpeg and ReClock which is the best for me and my system.

    Really thanks for info!

    That sort of repair can be effected by lots of other options ...
    - Vidcoder
    - Handbrake
    - AVIDemux
    - FFmpeg

    It's just remuxing or conversion option.

    But still, another good one to have in the armoury.

    Hi folks.

    I was suggesting this as a tool rather than its merits or otherwise as a media player --there are a load of different players out there and people have all sorts of preferences.

    However as a player it also works on Linux, android devices, amazon fire TV sticks, some smart TV's directly via their own apps etc.

    If you really want "The greatest and Bestest" player IMO what's wrong with KODI -- also a multi platform player -- absolutely everything plays with it including DVD ripped iso's (menus and all) and the m2ts format which a lot of others struggle with and if you like subtitles - it's great to be able to pull in the subtitles from places like opensubtitles or addic7ed etc and live streams also available.

    BTW m2ts can be converted to mkv / mp4 but why bother when you have a player than handles it directly -- I have a full 4K UHD hardware video capture device which I use for saving / copying programs from SKY Q / Amazon fire TV (NETFLIX and AMAZON PRIME). There's no easy way to copy these programs to a PC for later viewing --the video capture does an excellent job but saves in m2ts format. I use an HDMI splitter to route one stream through the hardware device from the SKY Q or Amazon fire TV box -- the splitter de-drm's the files so it's a decent passthru to the device.

    @HeM

    As far as editing video files - a mega problem with a lot of modern stuff these days is that the spoken dialog is often at a much lower level than the music / sound effects -- often absolutely hideously so --dialog almost inaudible while sound effects can be heard 3 streets away !!! -- So sometimes a bit of "Levelling" is perfectly in order. I agree though I like to keep the video pretty much original.

    Some older people here might remember the days when we actually used to watch live TV programs -- the sound during the commercial breaks was always far louder than the programs.

    As for Live TV (apart from Live Sport) I've more or less given up on it these days --too many trivial game shows, or endless "reality" stuff (sorry you can't call those that any more -- they are now "Observational Documentaries"). !!

    Of course there are other tools but vlc is something a lot have installed already -- messing around in command line with ffmpeg isn't for the fainthearted and handbrake while an excellent piece of software is hideously fiendish to get to perform optimally and unless you have a super cray mini computer it's notoriously slow at doing things like H265 conversions.

    Cheers

    ReClock? That's new to me. I've installed and it works fine alongside MadVR.

    Hi folks

    MPC won't handle m2ts (blu ray type) files

    also this note rather kills the idea of using it goiung forward :VLC --really good tool for repairing corrupt video files (mp4 etc)-mpc.png

    Nothing wrong in using other tools such as Madvr etc - but the whole idea of VLC is that it's childlishly simple -- especially for quick repairing / converting files.

    Once you start getting into the realms of "Jerky" Video, Direct show renderers etc -- that is well beyond the simple scope of what I was showing - and there are zillions of VLC users who probably never realized that it had a convert / repair feature in it.

    Cheers

    MPC-BE seems to play them fine.

    As you say VLC does have some uses.

    Apologies. Here's .m2ts playing. The earlier post was for .mts

    You'd need MPC-BE which is current.

    An old app. I use it for its WASAPI output. It's the best to my ears and system (DAC+HiFi), better than the one of JRiver which for many many audiophiles, is fairly the best.
