VLC --really good tool for repairing corrupt video files (mp4 etc)

    Hi folks
Never realized it but VLC is actually a good video file "repairer" (and it's 100% free)

easy way --from menu choose media-->convert/save

    add your file

    then save

unless file is totally unsalvageable it should do the trick for you.
Also good for converting to H265 -- a lot faster than Handbrake !!.

(saves messing about with all those "adware ridden "Free" online video converters etc.)

    Cheers

Yes, that is a part of VLC and it comes in useful at times.

    Thanks for posting it, Jimbo.

I have used VLC for years and it pretty much plays ANYTHING you throw at it. It is a great bit of software and even better it is FREE!

If you try another decent player you'll realize that it's not as great as everybody seems to think.

VLC can play / stream / convert / save / record almost everything and if a file cannot open with VLC, then can hardly (or not at all) play anywhere else.

VLC is not the greatest but is a MUST 'tool'. It depends on what a user wants from an A/V file.

After all, the greatest software is the one a user knows better...

I was an avid VLC fan for years. That's no longer the case.

At least you can add a decent video renderer to some other players.

    I absolutely agree!
I use VLC more as a tool and only if MPC (with proper renderers, filters etc.) cannot play something but this fact cannot reduce its value.

Well currently I have PotPlayer (custom install) and MBC-BE (KCP custom install) both with MadVR and they do indeed play anything. I'd admit to using other tools for conversion/ repair. As stated VLC playback quality leaves a lot to be desired. However it is great for users who just want something that works straight out of the box. In that sense I cannot knock it.
