laptop freezes when volume is on max

hi everyone! im new here and desperate! i have this laptop that i've been using for quite some time now and is really dependable given the situation. it screeches and freezes when the volume is cranked to max when gaming or watching a movie. when freezing sometimes, i leave it alone and after quite sometime it would revive itself but lately it doesnt work anymore, a hard restart would be required. but when volume not at max, you could watch a movie or play games until the sun sets without any issues. please help me! thanks!

    First, welcome to TenForums!

Have to admit, that is an odd problem. First thing that I would be curious about is weather this might have something to do with the audio driver.

Could try booting in safe mode and see if the system also hangs when you play something at full volume? If not, you may need to investigate to see if an updated audio driver is available.

Couldnt play a game due to the slowing down of the system, tried to play a video and this error came up (-2147416359) and there was no audio device detected.

My apologies, that one is on me. I had thought that in safe mode you have a minimal audio capability but I seem to have remembered that incorrectly. I tried it on my system and I also have no audio in safe mode.

Something else that you could try:

Begin by making a backup copy of all drivers for your system just in case something goes wrong using the pnputil command. For example, from an elevated command prompt run:

    pnputil export-driver * c:\backup

If you then had to restore your drivers you could run this after changing into the c:\backup folder (don't do this part now):

    pnputil /add-driver *.inf /subdirs /install /reboot

With that saved for emergency use, do this:

    1) Download the latest audio driver from the manufacturer of the system and try installing it.
    2) If that still does not help, try uninstalling the device from device manager. Make sure to also select "Delete the driver software for this device".

Now, allow Windows to detect the audio device by selecting your system name in device manager (click it), and then choosing Actions > Scan for hardware changes.

Windows usually does a good job detecting the best driver to use. If that still does not help, reinstall the driver that you downloaded.

update: before leaving for work this morning (i'm at work right now), i did the backup of the drivers and was able to install the driver from the realtek.. now the laptop doesnt have any audio at all

the audio controller something, i couldnt remember exactly what its name was, had an (!) on it, then under the 'sound, video and game controllers' - the realtek driver was not included, only one was left (cant remember what was it again), unlike before the installation there were 3 listed..

i tried to uninstall the driver, the prompt wasnt the same as what you posted above. i still did, yet it was still there. i tried to let windows download the driver but the download bar wasnt moving at all..

    any thoughts?

The download bar wasn't moving at all...

Was it like it was trying to download something but just couldn't?

If you look in the folder where you created yur backup of the drivers, you may be able to identify the audio driver, copy it to a seperate directory, then use the pnputil command I provided earlier to just install that driver. Otherwise, there is no harm in just telling it to install all those drivers. It should recognize the fact that all of the drivers are already installed except the audio driver and should restore the audio driver.

Does Acer have any forums on which you can inquire if anyone else is having the same problem with the same model system? Might be worth checking there to see if others are encountering this and if they have solutions.
