How to Hardcode Album Art into a File?

I've been trying everything I can think of to try to get my album art to show up properly on my phone (Galaxy S9) since the app I was using stopped working.

I thought maybe it's better to try to hardcode the album art into the file on my PC and then upload it to my phone instead of using an app.

So first I tried using VLC under the "information" tab for a song. Changed the art there successfully. However once I reclicked the song to play, the old album art was back.

Next I did it straight in Windows. Right click, properties, ID tag, album art. Deleted the current album art and added my own. Great. Shows up properly in WMP, however on my phone and in VLC the old album art is still there.

Where in the hell is it?! Why isn't it deleting even though I deleted it? How in the freaking hell do I hardcode the album art I want into the file?

Also of note, before re-uploading the files to my phone I deleted all of the "albumthumbs" and cleared all data from Samsung music.

It can't be this hard... how can I make this happen?

    Thanks!

    HI,

There is not only one type of tags (ID3v1, ID3v2, etc.) and some apps cannot read/remove all of them.
That's why you're facing that issue.

Download MP3TAG editor (it's free), remove old tags, create (or copy/paste) the new ones and the problem should be gone.

    MP3TAG => Tools / Options / Tags" :

If you're interested in a powerful player that can also handle tags perfectly, that is Foobar2000 but you have to "study" it a little bit at first...

Very nice thank you... I'll try out the tag editor and hopefully it works!

I'm sure it works. You're very welcome!

Note: There is no need to rewrite tags.
Just select and right click on (multiple) files, (1) "Tag copy", then (2) remove (to clear) and then (3) paste them.

Ok so I did that, and this devil of a freaking album art still won't leave!

Here's a screenshot of what it looks like. I have the correct album art in the program, but in VLC and my phone the original artwork still shows up.

Edit: also tried removing and re-adding the album cover and the old one still shows up. Where in the hell is this album cover stored?

MP3TAG's supposed to remove all those older tags. I don't understand.

Once I had the same problem I solved it using Foobar2000.
Would you like to upload somewhere one of these files for me to check it?

I thought maybe it was the cache or memory on my phone but I cleared all data which has worked before... but still nothing.

Sure I will pm you a file link.

    I've checked your file.
Unfortunately, I found that the only way to get rid of that cover is to use "Remove tag" on MP3TAG and rewrite tags. The same happens on Foobar2000, too.

If you remove only cover, or copy/remove/paste all tags, cover reappears on VLC.
It seems that is written on a "mystic" layer and only removing/clearing and rewriting all tags, repairs the file.

Hmm I tried that though. I removed the tags like you said in the first post and then pasted them back. The art was still there.

Did you try it and it worked?

Edit: Ok I almost got it but not quite. If I remove all tags and save it, then all album art is gone on all devices. However if I repaste the removed tags, then the old album art comes back.

Is there a way to repaste tags without affecting the album art?

Yes. If you copy/remove/paste tags, cover reappears. If you just remove them all and then create new ones, old cover does not exist.

Sorry, I didn't manage that although I tried to.
