Win10 , Bluetooth - Add Device window closes instantly

Hi , apologies if this is in the wrong sub-forum , at the moment i think its more windows corruption related than hardware.

Have a pair of Samsung Galaxy earbuds i have been trying to connect to desktop pc for most of the day and am at my wits end. Im using an Asus usb-bt400 bluetooth dongle .

If i go to settings , bluetooth , the slider says ON , but the tile down in the action centre beside the clock is not lit , its there but not lit (clicking on it does nothing)

When i click ADD DEVICE , a window pops up and gives you three options to choose the kind of device , but when i click `Bluetooth` another window pops up but immediately closes. The same thing happens when trying `devicepairingwizard` in the start menu , and also by going to the network settings , selecting bluetooth and trying to add device that way.

Ive tried Windows own drivers for the dongle , aswell as newest ones from ASUS. Ive even done a repair install of windows via the iso.

I have just tried my phone (Galaxy s10+) when i turn bluetooth on , on the phone , i can see my PC as available device so the pc is discoverable , but a pin number pops up on phone screen but says failed on the pc.

Ive tried creating another user also to no avail , ive pretty much tried everything that ive found online , i just cant figure out how the add device window keeps disappearing after a second or two.

    Thanks in advance

Hi, I've seen a report that such Asus dongles work from a USB2 port if you have one. Have you been using USB3?

Ive tried it on a few different ports mate , my pc case front ports are USB 2.0 and its in there just now.

Due to the add device window immediately closing i think it may be windows related , but an admin seemed to move it into here for some reason, as i posted it in general.
