Bet you never heard this one. ":-} Nothing turns off mic on always

I have a PC W10 updated (1909). I just noticed by accident that the mic is on while I'm running no programs that need it.

I've read a lot of fixes, if I have followed them correctly, they have not turned off the mic. I decided to restart after some of these "fixes" and it was on then, off only a few seconds and when in the restart mode came back on. Now this is a tad concerning because I can't make good sound or music recordings if it's recording on the mic also.

Not to mention that there's that basic security one needs not to think what's going on can go out over the web to another location.

Anyone have suggestions. I've went to the Sound and Recording Tabs. Made sure in the browsers I use that it's always ASK FIRST. The browsers aren't running in any case. I've been in Windows settings and tried to check only those programs that need the mic to the "off." I even tried turning the mic off itself and it's still on.

    I'd appreciate any knowledge you might have. Thanks jack ":-}

Have you allowed Cortona access to your mic?

When I open Cortana I do not see the mic icon so I'm going to say mr/ms Cortana doesn't have permissions. I have just run through all these and the mic is still hot???? And it's still on.

Sorry, except #5. I don't want to have to go to the Registry every time and turn mic on/off. That would be a pain.

You don’t have to edit the registers to prevent Cortana from using the mic. Just go yo settings and enter the word microphone in the search bar and you’ll see what apps have permission to use the mic. Same with the camera.

Moving on from Cortana. I mentioned above I turned if off. I was saying that the only step I hadn't tried was #5 and wasn't interested in using the registry.

I have still found no way to turn the mic from being on constantly. I've tried so many fixes that are out there. I don't understand why it's so. ":-\\

Read the suggestion again......you enter the registry to VIEW what is accessing the microphone.

Would you kindly PLEASE tell me who and where suggested to VIEW the registry to see what is using my microphone. Why do people have to be so darned uppity about teaching or talking to laymen? My friend you'd never be a patient teacher. smh I'll go google some to see how you view what is using your microphone.

I've done what was said above, numerous times. It does not work!!! That's why I skip over it again and again because I've tried it. I've turned everything off there in the recent past. Still does not help.

    Hi,

IMO, the best and safest way to face that, is:

Go to Control panel / Sound => Recording tab, right click on Mic and Disable it :

...and if you want it back, just Enable it by the same way.
Or else you may mute it but you never know when, for any reason, will be unmuted again...

Of course, you may handle it from Settings / System => Sound OR right click on Taskbar speaker icon / Open Sound settings => Input / Manage Sound devices, which is complicated enough, thanks to MS...:

Thank you sir. Believe it or else . . . that didn't stop the mic from being hot. It shows disabled. When I go to Sound settings where you can test the mic it shows no device in the dive present. Mic does not show hot. But it's still on even after a Explorer Restart ???

Isn't this screwball issue? I'm at a loss. But I know I can't have it on all the time. I really do not want to have to do a clean install. I've done it once several years ago. It worked then but there are so many updates. smh ":-\\ jackie not a happy boy! lol

Just an idea... Have you tried to create a new user account and see if that 'magic' still exists?
