    I have a PC W10 updated (1909). I just noticed by accident that the mic is on while I'm running no programs that need it. https://www.tenforums.com/gtsearch.p...&sa.x=0&sa.y=0
    I owe you helpful persons some sort of reply and hope I haven't wasted your time. I intend to have Reps on all of you so let me know if I missed someone.

    I have come to this conclusion and you may say, Why of course dummy, didn't you know that?

    Here's that concussion: The built in mic is hot. But I can go to settings and shut it off easily enough. The headset gets plugged in and it's always hot, not even turning the built in mic off will turn off the headset, IF . . it's plugged in. I guess that might be normal? So when I need the built in mic I turn it on or leave it off being the case. And I leave the headset mic unplugged until I need it. Is this the normal thing anyways? I don't know but thanks all! Kudos and if you think you Solved it let me know. I'll surely give the Solved option to your post. jack ":-}

    First, you're very welcome and thanks again for Rep!

    Here is not happening what you've described. When a headset is plugged in/out, won't affect settings.

    ...as you can see, there are two mic devices, the first is for headset/external and the second for internal.

    Here, there's a laptop with a Realtek on board audio card, with Windows native driver installed, although Windows suggested/downloaded a specific Realtek driver which I don't prefer for some reasons.

    Have you ever try to remove all existing audio drivers (with no internet connection) and then, let Windows install (if exists in its library) a native one?
    If so, see what happens, then connect to internet and let again Windows to install whatever (if so).

    If Windows, after internet connection, installs another driver, you may toggle between those drivers (native and net installed) to see if that helps. Finally, select the proper driver, without uninstall/remove the other one(s).

    Of course, you may skip above steps and try directly toggling between existing (if so) drivers:

    Update...

    I've just tested, installing the Realtek driver Windows suggested/downloaded and the two mic devices turned into one (same for internal and external) :

    and still headset/external plugged-in/out, cannot affect settings.
