Why is there no sound after resuming from sleep

To add to my ever growing list of annoyances and gremlins, is as the title says. Absolutely no sound at all after the computer resumes from sleeping. I know that some people are going to nag me about old hardware, but cmon, i can understand video as it evolved to higher and higher resolutions and framerates....but stereo speaker sound? Hasn't that been around long enough for windows to get it right? Thankfully i've only had trouble with video, mouse, and sound. oh wait...isn't that the whole computer? hahahaha This windows 10...i don't know about it. Black tuesday times 100. sorry about the rant.

maxmem must be set (i chose 4096, maybe that's wrong) to get any sound out of this at all.
    i've tried three different drivers.
i've disabled the fast start thing.
and i've tried waving my hands around frantically.
really, i laugh pretty loud when i consider installing it on a real computer.
and i'm not even going to mention all the peripheral features that of course have gone missing compared to win7.
one last crack at the cat. if i can fix this rediculous sound issue, i'll keep on evalutating 10, but it suure is on thin ice.

crazy baby. thanks for your precious time to all who read and contribute.
if they don't find you handsome, they better find you handy!!!
    peace.

    1) audio is going through much greater change in the last few years than video - the computer stays half asleep while half listen for a dozen key words to wake up cortana and Alexa.

    2) after you bought your computer 10 years ago, conexant went bankrupt, sold their audio chipset IP to another company that does not sell audio chipsets. How is that Microsoft's fault?

touche my friend. ya i get a little ranty when it's late in the evening, sorry about that! Those are very good points I had not entirely considered. i don't mind being schooled at all. I love a good learn, thank you. But when i went a googlin, i found plenty of the same issue, especially involving a particular update that caused this exact failure, or complete loss of audio, involving other brands of audio, and laptops as well, and much newer. You have to admit, that's fair fuel for a midnight mini rant no? And i seem to recall, being green lighted by one very friendly upgrade advisor too. I could understand completely if a fancy cortana feature didn't perform like it does on a shiny new box, or if something elegant like 5.1 took a hit or something. But you have to admit, simply wanting to make noise has been around for a while, so it's gotta make you wonder and elbow jab a bit. And that was my sober rant; good think i wasn't drunk!

The frustrating part is, this is the last of the gremlins to try and round up. Otherwise, this 10 year old laptop would be doing just fine on windows 10, and my kung fu wasn't strong enough. So do you think if i waved goodbye to cortanna that i might have a chance? salut! you've renewed my ambition with the thought on cortana.

And they have all valid explanations --- most of which are not Microsoft's fault either.

    1) realtek achieved basically monopoly status and doesn't care about updating their website with newer drivers (even though that they had written newer drivers). So people in 2020 are installing 2017 driver from the realtek website.
    2) OEM's don't give clear installation instructions on new drivers --- no readme file. So even if your computer has newer drivers, people don't know how to install it.
    3) computers 10 years ago came with a dvd-burner and dvd player which could decode 5.1 sound. Microsoft also gave out a free dvd player 10 years for windows 7 only (not windows xp, not vista, not windows 8 and not windows 10). Combine these 2 things means that modern computers shouldn't be able to decode 5.1 sound by themselves --- go and buy a software dvd player on the Microsoft Store.

Thanks. I'm schooled again. I like this place. :)

think there is any hope for my audio glitch? even though it's a minor annoyance? I'm fresh out of ideas, and it would be a perfect machine if it would resume with sound. I could leave it run, just the fan is a little noisy.
