Help! "One or more audio service isn't running"

    Hello

Having just uninstalled all manner of applications my computer ceased up. So I managed to run a System Restore which took a VERY long time but seems to have worked.

However now when I run the Troubleshooter I get:
"One or more audio service isn't running Not fixed"

Also the Speaker icon bottom right has a red circle with an "X" on it.

    What should I do?

    Hi, some ideas here:
4 Ways To Fix Red X On Volume Icon - Troubleshooter

and if no joy try only the relevant repairs to services offered by Tweaking.com's free repair tool (just search for it).

Use carefully, taking the precautions it prompts you to take.

    Hello

I hope I have done the right thing... I have now followed "Re-installed Windows 10 without losing data"
    YouTube

I now think that my System Restore crashed and various other odd things had started to happen, so I thought I should replace as much of Windows10 as possible, so I ran the above. I also ran MalwareBytes but it found nothing bad.

Everything seems to be working now - including my sound is back and the little red X circle is gone.

But now there is a new problem. The keyboard has become laggy! Quite often when I type, absolutely nothing happens for a few seconds and then suddenly all the keystrokes appear.

Should I still run the tweaking.com things?

    Many thanks

    Thank you for your reply.

    Presumably you did this:
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

    - an in-place upgrade repair install.

Tweaking.com? No, why would you? That was suggested to address the service issues you mentioned. Your services will have been reset to default by doing the in-place upgrade repair install.

It does offer other repairs of course.

Look at your task manager. Is there any evidence of high resource use?
Keyboard: do you see the same lag if you perform a clean boot? (Google clean boot if unsure or see tutorial here).

In what context do you experience this? typing in a browser? In notepad?

Yes didn't quite follow those steps, but roughly speaking I down-loaded a copy of Window10 from Microsoft and at the crucial moment I ticket the box to leave all programs and all data in place.

    > Look at your task manager. Is there any evidence of high resource use?
That was the strange thing - CPU was nearly idle.

    > In what context do you experience this? typing in a browser? In notepad?
It was happening more or less everywhere. e.g. Entering text into a TextPad file, typing an email, entering a URL into a browser.

However bizarely the problem now seems to have gone away on it's own.

So I think I'll tick "Solved" even though it may reappear - who knows?!

    Many thanks

Sounds better- maybe as part of the in-place upgrade repair install you received a slightly different driver.
