Interesting info here on why the ASIO install didnt work .

The main reason I even wanted to try it, was some 'noise' I was getting using a program called RACK.

Now you're saying realtek ASIO doesn't work reliably with DAW's ? so using it with Ableton or whatever would not be possible . ? seems odd
I'm not saying that the Realtek ASIO driver doesn't work reliably with DAW's.

I am saying that if you have any problems with it, nobody can help you.

Because in the computer world, the only people that uses ASIO are the hi-fi guys that want to stream their bit perfect music from foobar2000 to the amplifier receiver --- sygnus21 is one of these people.

But if you have problems with the ASIO driver with the DAW, then you have to go to kvraudio forums where real musicians will just tell you to buy an audio interface or use asio4all. I tried to help this guy at kvraudio using my "computer" knowledge, quickly got nowhere.

Realtek HD audio driver update - KVR Audio

Chances are good that it will work with your DAW if you know how to configure it in your DAW. But there is zero documentation on the Realtek ASIO driver, so chances are pretty high that a simple misconfiguration will basically render you in a maze where nobody can help you.

Remember that ALL onboard audio chipsets (including Realtek) are designed from the Intel HD Audio specification --- it runs natively at 48 kHz. Basically if you have a problem, you have to find the developers to figure that out and this guy got a Steinberg employee to figure out a Dorico/Steinberg generic low latency ASIO driver running at a different sampling rate than the onboard chipset (which runs according to the Intel HD Audio specification).

Still not sure what your issue is.

Be aware you need a hardware device and software to take advantage of an ASIO driver. Example I have a Teac DAC that uses an ASIO driver. Once the ASIO driver is installed it can be configured through the software using the ASIO driver. Below is the Teac ASIO driver and it's setting from within JRiver's Media Center....

If you don't have both hardware and software to take advantage of the ASIO driver it's useless. You also need to make sure the device using the ASIO driver is selected in the sound properties....

This guy here is using something called Eleven Rack as he tries to explain AISO. Not the greatest video but perhaps this could put you on the right track.

Hardware? That's not my experience or understanding at all.

Are you saying ASIO offers no advantages if used exclusively within the computer, say with Ableton, and not with any external hardware.?

    First I've heard that claim.

What do you think the soundboard that uses the ASIO driver is? Answer - Hardware!!!

Why would Ableton (Live) need an ASIO driver? - The soundcard for one; a midi or keyboard for another.

I think you need to research ASIO drivers to gain a better understanding of purpose and function.

    Here's a few links...

    Good luck.

I think you've invented a dispute where there was none .

Of course the audio 'device' be it internal to the mb, a card, or external via usb, is hardware.

Do you really think I didn't know this ?

My only confusion was in getting the ASIO driver to actually work . Still haven't had time to mod the inf and retry this.

I'm enjoying using Realtek asio thru Foobar2000 for playback - no sour notes here, hah!
no realtek audio sound effect enhancements (EQ & environment) will work thru realtek asio though but that doesn't bother me
some MP3 files won't play thru realtek asio if sample rate is far from or close to 44Khz, so realtek asio has some limitations

a pic of this when I was using Realtek UAD 8614 driver in early 2019

Realtek ASIO Driver installs but fails to operate-realtek-uad-8614-asio-foobar2000.png

again, in Device Manager I have "Realtek asio component" SWC listed there

Hi, ive managed to use the realtek asio driver in DAW's in the past and it worked perfectly fine with about 7ms latency but since i made the mistake of updating my realtek drivers i havent been able to get it working again. Very frustrating.
I remember using a driver from my ASUS mobo support page at the time when it worked but i dont remember exactly which one it was. Its a bit confusing as there are multiple driver packs on my mobos support page varying from 90mb to 700mb and some include asio and some dont. Anything i installed from the actual realtek site hasnt been working for me.
Asio is installed though and it shows up in ableton but when i select it i can either not play my track or it generates some error right after selecting it in the options. Also i used to be able to open a control panel for realteks asio settings from within ableton but that soesnt seem to be working anymore as well.
Anyway ill try to find the correct driver i used in the past and will post up once i found it

People need to check the links that Sygnus posted at #14...
ASIO was created (and still licensed) by Steinberg, a pro audio company, for the purpose of connecting DAW's directly to the hardware to drop latency for recording purposes by bypassing the OS processing. Yes, it's obviously high fidelity, but it's not intended for the consumer, why is why it's not offered for many basic or onboard audio cards. So if you think no one can help connect ASIO to a DAW doesn't understand either, because that is the fundamental function of ASIO.
If you have a driver that exactly matches your hardware, you may have to uninstall the device and all drivers completely, and run the ASIO installer again, but the nature of ASIO means that it is specific to the exact hardware, and there is no such thing as a true generic ASIO driver, even per manufacturer.
If everything is correct and it's still not installing and recognizing the ASIO package, you need to check with your manufacturer, not a general tech board. If your DAW is ASIO-compliant, than it will recognize the ASIO driver automatically in its list.
Quick note on ASIO4ALL, it's not ASIO and won't give the benefits of ASIO, because it is only a wrapper designed to connect DAW's that won't work with standard drivers. ASIO4ALL should also be avoided, because it's completely depreciated, not being updated for six years now.
