Realtek ASIO Driver installs but fails to operate

    AMD 3700x
    Aorus X570 MB
    Windows 10 64 Bit

Having trouble getting Realtek ASIO drivers to function.

I installed the latest drivers from the gigabyte/Aurus Elite drivers page. Its a recent build. 8854

So the Asio drivers don't install by default. There's a DIR in the install package that has an installer for the ASIO driver. Ran that. Strangely , it installs driver DLL's from 2016 .

They simply are not working at all. The ASIO driver shows up in audio apps (registered) , but crashes any program trying to use it, or throws an error .

Also in the driver package, are two directories (under win64\realtek\ with more recent ASIO drivers. One very recent (2019). The names and registry classid's are identical ({A80362FF-CE76-4DD9-874A-704C57BF0D6A}) , so I tried replacing the old ones. Same problem

Any idea why this is broken ? Other than ASIO , no problems with the regular drivers.

Has anyone gotten this to work

So no one has a clue as to why asio would not work out of the box ?

Nobody can help you because musicians either have audio interface with real asio or use asio4all for onboard.

If realtek asio didn't install during regular installation, then I think that your motherboard doesn't support it.

Take a look of the inf in the github below, one giant list of motherboards (with the realtek audio hardware id) installs only THREE software components.

A smaller list of 15 motherboards installs all FOUR software components.

A little complicated to figure out , but my ID , is not on that short list

    FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0B00&SUBSYS_1458A0CF

Not sure why a modern MB its an Auros Elite X570 would not support an ASIO driver.

And the driver is installed, just doesn't work .

Very surprised at this, and wonder if there isn't a hack that can fix it .

Also, there are millions of people in the world, and Im sure some of them are musicians using ASIO on built in audio.

ID "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0B00&SUBSYS_1458A0CF" is listed for "DeviceExtension_Install", not "DeviceExtension_ASIO_Install" in the HDX_GigabyteExt_RTK.inf file

you may have to edit that HDX_GigabyteExt_RTK.inf file and change "DeviceExtension_Install" to "DeviceExtension_ASIO_Install"
and re-install Realtek UAD driver w/ a modded INF file (have to disable driver signature enforcement before doing that)

Edit - I also use a Gigabyte board but mine is a retreaded board with HWID "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0892&SUBSYS_1458A182", which only installs just the basic Realtek audio components and not the ASIO portion.

If I really wanted ASIO support on my Gigabyte board, I have to uninstall the Realtek UAD driver completely, edit that HDX_GigabyteExt_RTK.inf file in Notepad and change the line the reads:
    "%Device.ExtensionDesc% = DeviceExtension_Install,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0892&SUBSYS_1458A182"
    to this:

    "%Device.ExtensionDesc% = DeviceExtension_ASIO_Install,HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0892&SUBSYS_1458A182"

then I close Notepad to save changes, reboot and disable driver signature enforcement, then run the setup program with the now modded HDX_GigabyteExt_RTK.inf file, click on the "install this driver software anyway" prompt and reboot again. now I have Realtek audio with ASIO support

Yes, I realize that hardware ID is NOT listed for an ASIO install.

I ran the stand alone Installer and the drivers get copied and registered.

ASIO shows up as installed in apps, BUT crashes or throws an error when accessed

Using the Gigabyte official Realtek drivers in this case.

I wonder if modding the inf would install the ASIO driver in a different manner and get it to work. If so , isn't it an oversight that it isn't automatically in there ?

Sorry, I didn't see your edited post before my most recent comment.

So you think using the standalone ASIO installer thats in the Win64 dir is not sufficient, I need to do the inf mod thing?

Have no problem futzing with it, if need be.

yes you must do the INF mod thing. standalone ASIO installer won't work - that only works with legacy HDA FFxx Realtek audio drivers like FF00
standalone ASIO installer won't properly register nor integrate with Realtek UAD drivers (and UAD drivers do NOT have FFxx designations like FF00).

after I removed the existing UAD driver on my Gigabyte board, then re-installed the UAD driver with the "modded" INF file, I check Device Manager (devmgmt.msc) to see if the Realtek ASIO Software component is listed as seen in this pic (see this new realtek asio "component" lists the asio files which are installed in the Windows\System32 folder):

Realtek ASIO Driver installs but fails to operate-realtek-uad-software-compoments-asio-devmgmt.png

by the way, I'm using Realtek audio UAD driver version 6.0.8885.1 from here.

What do you need an ASIO driver for? For what device?

BTW I am running an ASIO driver under Windows 10 for my DAC without issue.

The problem is that the only people using the real "realtek asio" driver is for running foobar2000 to get bit perfect audio hi-fi sound. Nobody knows how to use "realtek asio" driver to run a DAW.

So even if the OP manages to install the asio driver, nobody can help him if he has any problem with the DAW.

Interesting info here on why the ASIO install didnt work .

The main reason I even wanted to try it, was some 'noise' I was getting using a program called RACK.

Now you're saying realtek ASIO doesn't work reliably with DAW's ? so using it with Ableton or whatever would not be possible . ? seems odd
