    Realtek HD Audio and ASIO4ALL

Eventually coaxed ASIO4ALL v2 to work with my Dell Laptop (Realtek HD Audio)
First, I went into device manager and uninstalled every audio device I could see
Then I searched for my laptop and realtek audio driver
I was lucky enough to find that drivers-dell.com had mine listed
    Dell Precision M6800 Laptop
Realtek AL32xx Series HD Audio Codec Driver for Windows 10 64 bit.
after that was installed I checked the sound settings and only one device was listed
Speakers / Headphones (Realtek High Definition Audio)
I went into the Sound Control Panel
    PLAYBACK(Sound Control Panel)
I disabled the NVidia outputs (these are most likely HDMI audio but I'm not using that)
The only remaining output was listed as "Speakers / Headphones" which is the Realtek device...
Speakers / Headphones - properties, advanced
I set it to 24bit 44100Hz (Studio Quality)
    RECORDING(Sound Control Panel)
    I disabled the "Stereo Mix"
    SOUNDS(Sound Control Panel)
    I selected "no sounds"
    COMMUNICATIONS(Sound Control Panel)
    I selected "do nothing"
    CONFIGURE(Sound Control Panel)
I clicked the check box for - full range speakers front and left
The next place I looked was the little icons bottom right of windows there was a "speaker" for "Dell Audio"
Dell Audio is a really annoying piece of Waves Maxx audio enhancements...
    From the Dell Audio Icon...
MAIN - turn off the "speaker enhancement"
SPEAKER/HEADPHONE (This is what Waves maxx sees as the Realtek driver)
, set Default Format to 24bits 44100Hz (Studio Quality)
, Speaker Setup - Headphone Size - Large
, Equalizer (this has a habit of auto-enabling so I turned off all of the Maxx enhancements and saved a new profile and called it "nothing" which hopefully will become the default profile, then I turned off the equalizer (but it will probably turn on again but at least all enhancements in the "nothing" profile will override any Maxx audio stuff!!!)
I then found the ASIO4ALL and downloaded the latest beta version (2.15 beta 1, in my case)
ASIO4ALL will install (default settings) and you won't know a thing about it until you start your DAW..
    My DAW is Roland Zenbeats.
I started Zenbeats (which will be configured at the moment to use the Realtek driver)
Settings, Audio, Audio Device - select ASIO4ALL v2
Then look at the bottom tray for a green icon with a play symbol arrow (this is ASIO4ALL) and open that
There will be an icon bottom right of ASIO4ALL to select the advanced settings
I turned off the "ASIO HD Audio Stereo Input" as I am not going to be using that
I then set the ASIO Buffer Size to be 256
We need to close out of the ASIO4ALL control panel
Returning to the Zenbeats audio setup , I then set the buffersize to 256 to match ASIO4ALL and tested the "play audio" button and that sends a test tone which I could hear in my headphones.
    ...
    ...
Just found this online - hopefully it will prevent the MaxxAudio stuff from auto-starting.....
1 - Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to bring up task manager. If you don't see tabs at the top such as Processes, Performance, etc., press "More details". 2 - Select the tab labeled "Startup". 3 - Right click "Waves MaxxAudio Service Application" and select Disable.

Last time when I needed to use ASIO4ALL was about 10 years ago when the WASAPI addon for foobar2000 hadn't received an update yet so back then it couldn't be used with the built-in volume slider of foobar2000 or ReplayGain to play back my Hi Rez FLAC files through my audiophile setup that had no hardware volume control so ASIO4ALL was what saved me from blowing up my expensive speakers that I had just bought new.
