I'm not saying that the Realtek ASIO driver doesn't work reliably with DAW's.
I am saying that if you have any problems with it, nobody can help you.
Because in the computer world, the only people that uses ASIO are the hi-fi guys that want to stream their bit perfect music from foobar2000 to the amplifier receiver --- sygnus21 is one of these people.
But if you have problems with the ASIO driver with the DAW, then you have to go to kvraudio forums where real musicians will just tell you to buy an audio interface or use asio4all. I tried to help this guy at kvraudio using my "computer" knowledge, quickly got nowhere.
Realtek HD audio driver update - KVR Audio
Chances are good that it will work with your DAW if you know how to configure it in your DAW. But there is zero documentation on the Realtek ASIO driver, so chances are pretty high that a simple misconfiguration will basically render you in a maze where nobody can help you.
Remember that ALL onboard audio chipsets (including Realtek) are designed from the Intel HD Audio specification --- it runs natively at 48 kHz. Basically if you have a problem, you have to find the developers to figure that out and this guy got a Steinberg employee to figure out a Dorico/Steinberg generic low latency ASIO driver running at a different sampling rate than the onboard chipset (which runs according to the Intel HD Audio specification).
