    Laptop Speaker Not Working

I have used my Dell XSP 13 9370 since a few months now and suddenly the speaker stopped working. I tried using headphones and bluetooth to find out if the problem was the driver and I couldn't hear anything. I assumed it was a driver problem so I updated my drivers from the official Dell Support Site. Now audio works through headphones and bluetooth but not through the laptop speakers itself. I'm afraid that it is a hardware issue.

Any type of help would be great :)

    Thanks!

Hi, this appears to be fully supported for Win 10.
    https://www.dell.com/support/home/uk...laptop/drivers

    What do you see here?

If you go to the Advanced tab and click Test, what happens

Have you tried uninstalling your sound driver and restarting?

Also check your volume mixer - and check whatever you are hoping to hear sound from doesn't have it muted there.

To verify your hardware you can use a live boot disk so this is independent of current Windows settings etc. Boot your PC from that and run a test. Example iso suitable for live boot:
    Toolkit Item: Kyhi’s Rescue Disk – Win10.Guru

    - or build your own from thread at the top of the Software and Apps section here.

History: what happened 'a few months ago'? Do you have any idea? Upgrade? Some settings change? Maintenance actions? Your Update History might have a clue if you know the data and haven't upgraded since then.

Did you try using a restore point at the time? Or restoring a recent disk image? (tenforums members tirelessly recommend the routine use of disk imaging to give you a second chance of recovery quickly without technical help- Macrium Reflect - free-paid + large enough external storage). Disk imaging means you have everything secure should your PC be stolen or your disk fails.

    Thanks for the reply.

This is the settings that I have. If I click on test, I hear no sounds. I do hear sounds on the headphones though if I plug them in.

I will get back to you with the Live Boot Disk ASAP :)

The only significant thing that happened the last few months was a battery replacement. The old one was dead and had to be replaced.

A look on the Internet shows that to be an internal battery that requires some disassembly of the case to replace it, quite possible the process could dislodge some things inside the machine such as disconnecting wires like for the speakers.

Well spotted- and will be likely confirmed if still no sound using a live boot disk.

I have tried the live boot disk and the speakers still don't work.

I am going to assume it is a hardware problem.

Thank you for the help though :)

That boot disk is a useful tool. Soldering irons aren't too expensive... . Just too far to reach from here...
