Headphones are reported as not plugged in after W10 upgrade

Upgraded w7 pro to w10 pro on Z800 workstation. The headphones are not working. The internal speaker is working.

Settings>sound reports that speakers and microphone are not plugged in. I have tried plugging the headphones into both the front and the back jacks. They were working before the upgrade.

The driver is "High Definition Audio Device." No Realtek driver is among those listed, and HP does not have W10 drivers for this model (though the rest of the upgrade seems to be working perfectly).

The headphones are cheap, ancient (probably Windows Vista) Logitech, with no model number. I would try other headphones if I had them, bit am reluctant to buy headphones if they are not going to work.

    What now?

Samurai, Thanks for your input. Sorry I didn't mention a couple of things. The headphones were working on this computer until the W10Pro upgrade. They plug into the green/pink 3.5mm outlets on the front and back of the computer. These sound inputs are part of the computer as originally shipped.

Nothing in device manager has a yellow triangle. These are the same headphones I have used on this computer for years with no issue until the W10 upgrade.

Go to HP's website and find a more current Z workstation model with windows 10 realtek audio drivers and see if it installs.

Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version [2]

I have done it that way with my Acer pc and asdsss has done it for his asrock motherboard.

You should try the HP Z8 realtek driver, much newer.
