Is there a firmware update available?

Is your soundbar set to Dolby Digital mode?

Did you install Dolby Home Theater V4?
I just checked and my soundbar and tv are both the latest versions.

My soundbar doesn't have a dolby digital mode but I do have on the surround sound and 5.1 works with my apple tv just fine.

I did install Dolby Home Theater V4 and when I did this it gave me the option to switch to dolby digital in the advanced tab under all of the other quality settings (like 16 bit, 44100Hz and a few others).

u need a modified driver to unlock dolby digital over nvidia hdmi ( AlanFinotty driver mod)
then u go to audio settings > channel settings > choose DOLBY
now all the system will be encoded to dolby audio in realtime
    BUT...maybe not make a 5.1ch output...just a stereo for the system itself
I installed that driver mod and whenever I try to open the sounds blaster x-fi app, it says the audio device is not supported.

So thanks to fatguy posting earlier about a different forum post, as that allowed me to install everything without a modded audio driver. He linked to a forum but it landed on a random page, so I had to search around the time he posted here, April 2020, and found the creator of the APO utility saying to install the FX Configurator and Dolby DS1 7.6.5.1 (as of this posting). I didn't need to install anything mentioning PCEE. Just set the device you want with the FX Configurator the way that fatguy showed with that imgur link (https://imgur.com/AK0MMko) and then run the Dolby Install from his zipped file. It took me way too long to get everything together that he did, so save yourself 30-60 min and download that from page 1 on this thread and get this up and running right away.

    TL;DR:
    1. Download the zip file from Fatguy
    2. Unzip and install APO driver, selecting "FX Configurator" and "Dolby DS1 7.6.5.1"
    3. Use FX Configurator to set the device you want to using Dolby Home Theater v4 (HDMI/SPDIF), illustrated here: https://imgur.com/AK0MMko
    4. Install DolbyHomeTheater.msi from Fatguy's zip file
    5. Go to your device in sound window (looks like old control panel, not modern settings page), click properties, and if successful, you should have a "Dolby" tab and in Advanced > Default Format, a "Dolby Digital" format. 6. Test surround sound via the 5.1 surround sound file Fatguy listed earlier via Windows Photos app (direct link here: https://www2.iis.fraunhofer.de/AAC/ChID-BLITS-EBU.mp4)
Thx you and mr., fatguy. Now I got 5.1 sound with my lg c2. Connection -> RX7900 xtx HDMI to LG C2 HDMI -> LG C2 Optical spdif pass through to 5.1 speakers with DD.

    My setup is RTX 3070 -> HDMI 2.1 -> LG C2 -> Optical Cable -> Logitech Z-5500

I did everything according to swirle13's guide several times and eventually Dolby Digital did show up and everything worked correctly. Then, after a restart, Dolby Digital was again gone. I've done dozens of clean installs of this whole thing again and again and Dolby Digital just refuses to show up under format options.

Replying just so I can see the attachment cause apparently you need to do that.
Doing the same? Following the guide post from later on to modify without drivers.

So I have read this thread and it is very interesting thanks for your hard work.

My issue is I am using a program called impulcifer and hesuvi. Basically I have my HRIR that gives virtual surround sound by measuring your head, ears and speakers so that i can simulate real speakers on headphones. It works unbelievably great.

I am able to get 7.1 surround sound but recently by experimenting found that if I use the dolby for headphones with dolby access it gives me clearer and more detailed audio where I can pinpoint every sound around me. I feel i'll get better results using dolby theater from the dolby access app rather than using the dolby for headphones.

My question is, is there a way to get dolby theater to work on a different driver (VB audio cable). I have managed to get the tab for dolby in the properties section using fatmans guide, but when i go into advance there is no option for dolby digital.

Do I first need to uninstall all dolby access and dolby drivers then use fatmans guide?
Do I need to istall dolby access from the fatmans zipfile?

Hey! I suspect having the exact same issue as almost everyone else here. I'm trying to get 5.1 audio from: PC -> TV (VIZIO H1-65) -> Soundbar (V51-65).

First I want to make sure I understand the problem correctly:

The HDMI 2.1 connected from my pc to the tv grabs the audio channel info from the built in TV speakers, which are just 2 channels (stereo), when in reality the tv is just acting as an audio passthrough to the soundbar which supports 6 channels (5.1). Since this occurs windows just thinks you're connected to a stereo device so it defaults to 2 channels.

I've tried lots of the solutions in this thread and none of them have worked. First, I tried just using CRU to manually edit the audio information from the TV but that doesn't seem to work. Then I tried the APO driver route that was in the HD audio zip file and that just added the Dolby digital audio format to the list of available formats but every time I try to select it, it says an error occurred. I even tried connecting my PC straight to the soundbar but it was not recognized at all (not even in device manager).

If anyone has some of the same hardware as me and has figured this problem out or some other inisghts a response would be greatly appreciated!
My Westinghouse TV has a sound setting, and I set to raw. Then it will pass 5.1 out of a coax spdif cable to the AVR and give 5.1

I used to do that, but now since I have 3 HDMI sources to watch, I use a HDMI switch that extracts 5.1 audio and give that to my old Sony AVR which has no HDMI capability.

I think I'm having the same issues. I have a Geforce RTX 3080, which has an HDMI 2.1 connection to my Sony Bravia TV. My TV is using optical out (S/PDIF) to my soundbar. I've followed all the steps outlined in this thread, but no matter what I can't get anything "dolby" to show up in the "advanced" tab in the properties for my TV. I _do_ see the "dolby" tab in the properties, clicking on it just shows a black window with no text or image. One step that does not seem to be in any of the step-by-step guides, but I've seen mentioned in this thread is this one "u need a modified driver to unlock dolby digital over nvidia hdmi ( AlanFinotty driver mod)". I was wondering if that is a necessary step that's been left out of the step-by-step guides, or is it actually necessary at all? I don't see much information on the AlanFinotty driver and googling it doesn't exactly paint a clear picture of exactly what it's supposed to do. I found this page: AAF DCH Modded Audio Driver (Realtek DCH UAD 9326 WHQL & HDAUDIO Enumerator Chip) | guru3D Forums

And I end up installing some sounds blaster x-fi app, not sure to what end... but when I run it I also get the same message: the audio device is not supported.

Are there any other steps I might be missing? I'm not sure why I cannot get anything new to show up in the advanced->default format dropdown, even though I can get the dolby tab to show up.

My laptop already comes with Dolby APO (for dolby atmos on inbuilt speakers) Will using the fatguy method break that?
