How do I reset the sound settings in Windows 10?

I recently ran an audio troubleshooter.
I changed the audio output port from speakers to headphones which doesn't work at all.
Now, I can't change it back.

Visit the Sound item in Control Panel, and check your selected output device on the Playback tab. If you use a microphone (or other audio input), do likewise to check the selected input device on the Recording tab therein. Here's a snap of my Playback item (external speakers) on my production PC:

This is what happens when I plug in my Logitech headset:

You can also use this tool to manually select the devices you want, or at least be able to see if those devices are visible to your OS/PC. If those devices are visible, you should be able to (re) establish the settings you need with some trial-and-error poking around. If they're not visible, post again here and we can figure out how to get their drivers reinstalled (but also, check Device Manager to see if for some reason or another they've been disabled).

Well that seems to have done it.
One speaker isn't working but I think that might be an amplifier problem.
    Thanks again.

I think I will try that also.

Hello, I was trying to record a BBC Sounds program using Audacity but was plagued by a very strong, loud echo that obliterated the content.
I tried resetting the audio settings as described above, but now I get a very strong echo on ALL sounds! - e.g. playing an MP3 track, or a BBC Podcast, or even a ding to tell me I've selected a Windows Explorer folder, or something has finished downloading.
Help! What on earth is going on!?
