None of my newer computers have the old Realtek panel with all the options. My self built desktop, with an ASUS motherboard has "Supreme FX" add on and my Dell laptop has "Wavesmaxx".
only my relative's old Dell Inspiron 580 desktop PC (a 2010 model) does use the old Realtek HD Audio manager rather than the newer Waves Maxxaudio since modern Dell computers w/ onboard Realtek audio seem to have Maxxaudio integrated.

Jim Coates from the Dell forums talked about the "transitions" between the old Realtek audio manager control panel to the Dell Audio control panel in newer Dell computers

you must completely uninstall whatever existing Realtek audio driver you had with DDU (display driver utility), reboot and clean install an HDA FF00 driver. latest HDA FF00 driver is now v6.0.8865.1.
Hi, just tried that on my Thinkpad out of curiosity- definitely that version installed, and no Dolby, but still no Sound Effects tab..

what's the model no# of your Thinkpad, dalchina?

the Realtek sound effects tab may not be available for recent or modern Thinkpads with Realtek audio
what I have in the example in my earlier post was from an old desktop PC (an HP Pavilion m8417c media center from 2008)

now in this example I have the sound effects tab on my father's Toshiba Satellite C55Dt-A laptop (a late 2013 model), along with a DTS tab that launches the DTS Sound enhancement app

See my specs - My computers, below my post. Bought 2nd hand from ebay 18 months or more ago. I had hoped the driver you were referring to (FF00??) was some adapted one given its source. There must be something that suppresses those tabs in certain cases. I even tried the exact same driver that provides it on my other laptop.

Normally Dolby software is installed on the Thinkpad so I guess the idea is that is meant to provide the function- but I find it just nasty to use.

ok I edited my previous post to include another computer (a Toshiba laptop) that has the Realtek sound effects tab that also has a DTS tab on it

It looks like your Thinkpad T440s has integrated Dolby home theater V4 on it, according to the original specs
and you'll never get the sound effects tab regardless of whether or not the Dolby apps are removed or not; the Realtek audio drivers (whether HDA or UAD) may be "hard coded" to use whatever audio features it came with the Thinkpad T440s computer

only way to possibly override the behavior (and maybe put the sound effect tab on that Thinkpad) is with an rtkhdaud.dat config file

That's the conclusion I came to, so I started using the PC Equalizer (Peace) as the Dolby controls are HORRIBLE. I definitely need an equaliser when using the internal speakers.

Strange that someone hasn't hacked a version of Realtek to stop the equaliser features being suppressed. That must have been implemented a long time back in Realtek's history.

I'll have a look at that forum.

oh well tough luck, dalchina (maybe blame Lenovo since they want to integrate Dolby in a lot of their machines)
all of the PCs I have that use onboard Realtek audio devices have the sound effects tab available in the Realtek control panel

maybe get an older Thinkpad from the early 2010s or late 2000s that don't come with Dolby perhaps

No- definitely not worth it. The older ones have driver incompatibilities with Win 10 e.g. fingerprint sensor and something else. Def. not worth it for this snag- it's nice to use and light for travelling without its huge external battery- it has a small internal one too.

like I said before, dalchina - tough luck when using modern Lenovo machines since they told Realtek to block out or remove the Realtek sound effects tab since Lenovo wanted to integrate Dolby directly onto the Realtek audio drivers and use those Dolby features instead. next new PC I will buy will definitely not be a Lenovo brand one

just out of curiousity, what is the hardware ID number of the Realtek High Definition Audio device listed for your Lenovo laptop in Device Manager?
use this site to gather the hardware device ID of a particular device

(examples - hardware ID number for Realtek ALC269 on the Toshiba C55Dt laptop is
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0269&SUBSYS_1179FA22
on my HP m8417c computer, that one uses Realtek ALC888S with ID - HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0888&SUBSYS_103C2A6C)

No more than I expected. Modern? Must be 4.5 years old...? Reviewed Nov 2013...! Not modern.

    "
    Audio

While it's fine for conferencing and movie watching, the ThinkPad T440s offers unpleasant music playback. The laptop's bottom-mounted speakers were loud enough to fill a small room, measuring 81 decibels on our sound test, which is fairly loud, but still a tad below the 84-dB category average. Playback also muffled a bit when the system was pressed against our legs.
When we played Patrice Rushen's bass-laden "Forget Me Nots," playback was fairly accurate, though flat. Judas Priest's guitar-heavy "Painkiller" sounded tinny. Enabled by default, the included Dolby v4 audio software made the audio quality more tolerable than it would have been without it . The sound became hollow and lifeless when we turned this feature off."
    - hence my interest, the only bad thing about it, other than the weird 'floating' touchpad.
