So you wiped the drive and reinstalled --- then there is no prior corrupted registry messing your new installation. The laptop's registry would start off as blank and built from the OS installation. So why do you keep on saying it's a registry issue. The registry is not corrupt if it's built from scratch literally 5 minutes ago.

The reason why I tell you to give the laptop back to your friend is precisely this issue. The registry has no problems, you don't know what you are doing and you are going to mess with the registry causing more problems for your friend. And the old thread from 2017 had zero mention of registry issues --- but you are so sure that it is a registry issue.

It's just frustrating because you don't list what exactly you did. Reinstalled Windows 7, sound didn't work until I tinkered a few settings --- BUT you don't tell us what settings tinkered. That times 10 because you literally didn't say anything until I asked a series of specific questions.

So you have a laptop with the latest bios. Have you check the bios if onboard audio is enabled in the bios?

Do you get different results from laptop complete shutdown instead of restart? Do you get different results from laptop closing the lid thus going to sleep and then waking up?

If sometimes the laptop has no audio device in the device manager, sometimes it has yellow exclamation mark, sometimes completely ok (and thus computer has sound) --- it is probably a hardware issue.

-My thinking here was that a registry quickly updates itself building in new data and in this case reallocating the 'error'!
I believe my friend didn't do anything to cause this. Something is being 'remembered' somewhere in the PC because its reoccurring on fresh installs.

-I know I am quiet ignorant about what's actually going on inside the PC, but I told you my friend has his PC 'back' in the same condition he gave it to me

You think I like to write 'long' passages...Heck No! It would have took me 3 or 4 times as long if I had to write everything down as I did it. I did give him a long list of what I did but almost everything I tried has been covered here in the old thread and now in this one

    -Yes

I hadn't tested that. I just remember trying to save the system in it's 'working' state, but I may have failed to that properly because the system couldn't open the 'restore' file afterwards

It only changes in the device manager when I try to uninstall, update or disable drivers , it's not intermittingly changing it's own state. Its very stubbornly telling me there is no Audio present in the machine when I know there is because I heard it three times.

I have downloaded some UAD Realtek Drivers which I am about to load.

bad idea to use Realtek UAD drivers on the Asus X555LA laptop, Vimy. UAD drivers are mostly designed for more recent laptops/motherboards, especially those made in late 2017 and newer; Realtek UAD drivers are also "hardware ID" or OEM specific and may not support your X555LA laptop.

original Realtek audio driver for that laptop (v6.0.1.7571) from Asus web site was the traditional HDA (nonUAD) driver.

so use a Realtek HDA FF00 driver and avoid using UAD drivers.

Stop saying that UAD drivers are somehow designed for more recent computers/motherboards.

It is just that computer/motherboard manufacturers are too lazy to test/upload/support new UAD drivers, so they don't put these drivers in old products.

BUT the same laziness helps us because most of the time computer/motherboard manufacturers are too lazy to write completely new inf files --- they just keep on adding the new hardware ID's in the inf file. So if you have an old laptop, find a new laptop from the same manufacturer and you will probably be able to use that UAD driver.

My computer has a Realtek ALC662 which is more than 10 years old and I have installed official UAD drivers that didn't come listed for my Acer model in their website. All I did was going to Acer's website, find a new computer from a similar class of computers (i.e. home desktop, gaming desktop, business desktop, laptop...) and install that new computer's UAD drivers.

Thanks guys, ya that was a week ago before I gave it back. It didn't change anything , I think the uad driver was rejected anyways, last driver I tried was ac'97 . Prior to that the closest I could get to having a driver showing up in Device Manager was with a code 10 error. The 'ac'97 and the latest (Asus Website) driver only showed up in 'Programs', not in D. Manager and in that state I could never run them, hence they were never 'fully installed' programs either. When I see my friend again I'll probably try what this guy says...[FIX] 'No Audio Output Device Is Installed' For Windows 10.

That page's advice won't work, don't even think of trying it.

There's a lot of pages about ASUS X555's losing audio. Clearly a bad design with the audio on a daughter board that's snaps into the motherboard. Either get USB audio or hook it up to monitor/TV where the HDMI audio will work at least.
