Sound from another desktop

Hey guys. Do you if it is possible to somehow turn off sounds from another desktop? Windows integrated, or third party app. Thank you.

EDIT: Forgot to say that some Desktop keyboards also have sound/volume controls on them. And most speaker sets have volume controls with an On|Off switch.

I was probably not clear. There is a "task view" button on bottom left, next to "Start" button. From there, you can add another desktop, switch to other one, ... So what I would like is when I switch to second desktop, sounds from the first one would not be played (like sound on web pages and so on). Is this possible?

That is quite a bit different. Are you using 2 monitors with speakers in them or one of them you could mute? Or do the Web pages that are loaded in the background have a mute on the videos?

None of my monitors have build in speakers. Speakers are plugged in.
So let's say I open youtube video on one desktop. Then I create new desktop (Win + Ctrl + D shortcut), and then youtube video should be muted. And if I open another youtube video in this desktop (or any movie, or video game or something), it should be heard.

Hi, I don't know of a way to disable sounds on another Task View Windows 10 desktop. But, there is an alternate way you might be able to accomplish using the 'App volume and device preferences' option in Windows 10.

You can find this by typing 'Sound' in the Windows 10 search. This will bring you to the Sound Settings page. At the bottom, you should see 'Advanced sound options' and 'App volume and device preferences'. Within this settings page, you will be able to dictate the volume and audio output PER OPEN APP, meaning, if you can determine the apps on your other desktop, you should be able to individually mute the volume here.

*One clever trick might be to use separate web browsers in each Windows 10 desktop, so you can adjust the volume.


As you can see here on my computer, I have done just that. I've opened youtube videos in both Chrome and Firefox. I have muted any audio in Chrome and the only video I hear is in Firefox now.
