    I need help diagnosing a cd-rw burner

Hello all, I am getting ready to burn an audio disk and my PC says need to install burner.

How can I diagnose this? Before anyone asks there have been NO changes to my PC to any software or hard ware period. It burned fine until today.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Get a new drive. There are different frequencies used by the laser whether it is read or write. I keep a portable Blu-Ray onhand for use between devices.

New drive is sitting in the Amazon cart. Any way to determine the problem before I blow $44 bucks?

Yes, youhave already made that diagnosis. CD/DVD/Blu-ray drives are going the way that Zip and Floppy drives went. The last time I used my portable Blu-Ray, was to reinstall software for my flat-bed scanner that you cannot just go and download. At some Point I will probably move it to a cloud drive.

Ok , After spending 3 days waiting and 50 bucks I still have the same problem, anyone wanna try again to help?

New burner installed, still no burn available In fact I cannot even play or access the drive now, see screenshot (plugged old drive in, same message with either hooked up) First noticed this additional problem when trying the shortcut I had pinned to start, it said the shortcut no longer available.

usually on many Dell computers, pressing the F2 key during the Dell logo screen when turning on the computer enters the BIOS/UEFI setup

cdrws/dvdrws never show up on devices & printers, metalman228

last thing to check is this MS support article 314060. possibly corrupted or messed up reg entries relating to UpperFilters or LowerFilters.

another thing to check: quality and/or brand of CD-Rs & CD-RWs being used. some brands like Verbatim are better than others and I hardly have problems with Verbatim brand CDRs/CDRWs.
