Intel removed their graphics control panel from their new DCH drivers and you have to get it from the Microsoft app store. But if you used those extra features in the old intel graphics control panel and they are not present in the new Microsoft app store version, then you are out of luck.

Frequently Asked Questions about Windows* DCH Drivers for Intel(R)...

But one thing for certain, Microsoft is never going to fix this "issue", not in 19H2, 20H1, 20H2...

When I tried the Sandyt solution, I did not uninstall Realtek hd audio manager via systems/apps. Only the drivers were uninstalled and the system restarted.

In device manager, "Realtek HD Audio" means you have old HDA driver. "Realtek Audio" means you have new DCH style UAD driver.

Unless you have specific reasons to use the old HDA driver (equalizer, headphone 3D effects, etc...), I would suggest that you uninstall the realtek hd audio manager and all the old drivers, and try to use the 8746.1 driver.

When you plug in front headphone jack, you should see it in the windows settings, systems, sound, sound control panel, speakers, speakers property, general, jack information.

The HDA driver still works. Just set like the pic below shows. After installing, unplug and plug back in front headphone, select headphone and your good!

I am having what sounds to be the same issue on 1903. This is a brand new build and I just installed Windows 10.

I have tried the latest Realtek drivers from my motherboard manufacturer and Ben's update method above.

No matter what is plugged in, I only have 1 playback/output device.

    • I plug my speakers into the back of my computer = audio plays and listed as Speakers (Realtek Audio)
    • I plug my headphones into my front panel = audio plays and listed as Speakers (Realtek Audio)
    • I plug my headphones into my front panel and speakers into rear panel = audio plays out of front panel and listed as Speakers (Realtek Audio)

I used to be able to switch between front and rear when both were plugged in. I am thinking this might be a 1903 issue.

This is the correct default behavior - front headphone mutes rear speakers.

Starting with 1903, Microsoft wants every peripheral manufacturer to write a very small (and therefore more secured) driver and leave all the extra stuff on a separate download.

So no more Realtek HD Audio Manager with 1903. Realtek wrote a new white label Realtek Audio Control windows app that has all the extra stuff like equalizer. The problem is that it is only available from your motherboard manufacturer because Realtek is not releasing it at the moment. And most motherboard manufacturers don't update their drivers of their existing lineup to the 1903 driver.
It works with 1903, left click the speaker Icon in the taskbar as shown in this pic

We can't compare with your gaming Asus setup and then give advice to people when you have every single feature available in your Asus HD audio manager.

With my no frills UAD driver setup, there is no separate headphone item listed. Speakers means both my 2 speakers hooked up to the rear panel and my headphone hooked to the front panel. I plugged in my headphone, the speakers are muted. I unplugged my headphone, the speakers will resume outputting sound.

There is no separate headphone item is in "select playback device" in the speaker icon in the taskbar --- just plain "speakers (realtek audio)" which means both my muted speakers and headphones.

And the thread starter is looking for a separate item. There is no separate item.

I didn't read it as he wanted your no frills UAD. I tried UAD and I still had headphones and speaker option.

My point is, this is wrong. I have 1903 and Realtek HD audio Manager. You said it as if he has to use the UAD, he doesnt.
