one pc speaker set combine to two pc's

Is it possible to use one pc speaker set to use with 2 pc's .

I have two pcs and use one monitor via HDMI switch unit and wondered whether you can do a similar set up with one set of speakers between 2 pc's without the expense of buying another set of pc speakers.

I have used 3.5mm Y splitter,coupler,3.5mm male to male leads x 2 and all i get is a muffled low bass sound ...do i need another cable somewhere.

I have attached a sketch of my main pc speaker set up.

Assuming you don't need both computers sound coming out at the same time --forget the splitter just get a simple box with aux out and two aux inputs that you can switch between.

Note also that some HDMI outputs also have embedded audio so another possible solution is simply to output the sound output from the monitor to the speakers so when you switch the HDMI output the relevant sound will go to speaker system.

The way you've wired it up I think you've forgotten basic physics --"Maximum power transfer" -- impedance of source and sink (destination) should be equal -- in this case as you've essentially got the source "in parallel" the impedance will be a bit bonkersly off.

If you get an audio input switch you can connect both PCs to different inputs & then connect the output from this switch to the normal input of the speaker set. You can then select which PC is connected to the speakers.

Cabling required will depend on the input switch chosen - most use mainly phono (aka RCA) connectors, some have 3.5mm stereo jack sockets - mine for example is mainly phono (3 inputs + the output)but with 1 x 3.5mm input.

Just stick "audio input switch" into the Amazon UK search box & some possibilities will appear,

If your monitor has built-in speakers, then a temporary fix before you buying anything is to have pc2 output audio via hdmi to your monitor. PC1 output audio to your dedicated computer speakers.

Looking at various options i decided to buy some creative usb powered speakers for my other pc which amazingly have good bass instead of buying cables,switching boxes etc..simple options sometimes are the best...creative speakers were priced too.
