    Fast popping sound from speakers

My sound seems to be operating okay, albeit with some loss of fidelity (I think). But with no sound or volume I get a Fast popping sound from speakers. The popping is low level, but it's annoying like a dripping faucet.

How do I troubleshoot and turn it off?

Your "My Computer" shows video card generated HDMI audio. Are you actually using HDMI audio or the PC on-board audio?

If you disconnect the speakers from the PC (leave them powered on) do you still hear any popping?
What are the speakers you are using? Are they AC powered or powered from a USB port?
If you connect a headset do you hear any popping?
Are you connecting via Ethernet or Wi-Fi?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get a base of what you have.

Thanks for the quick reply. This has not been a high priority for me so I just got around to following up.

I found that with the speakers disconnected from my computer the popping sound remained. I checked all connections from the powered subwoofer and right/left speakers. Also changed volume and surround controls - all with the speakers disconnected from tower.

I have no idea what made a difference but when I reconnected the speakers the popping sound was no longer present.

A bad connection internally with the speakers?

    I don't know.

I was encouraged when I disconnected the speakers from my computer and the popping remained giving me confidence that the problem was less complicated than envisioned. I did a few adjustments to the speakers (available from the disconnected speaker set) and the popping stopped. I hooked the speakers back to the computer and popping remained absent. I haven't tried to reproduce the problem. Maybe a bad connection? It wasn't a 60 cycle hum or momentary pop. It was a rhythmic popping.

If the popping returns I'll try to be more systematic in determining the cause.
